The fun of summer
Just want to let y'all know that if you are thinking of vacationing in Maine, once this pandemic is over, you might want to think again. Maine has the highest rate for lyme disease in the country. I have already picked 3 off me in the past week, alone. I was diagnosed with lyme a few years ago and was given antibiotics. It took me two years to completely get rid of it. That's nasty stuff. They tell me I can't get immune to it because there are 15 different variations of it. So far this year, I have been lucky.
If you get a tick bite no matter where you are, put neosporin on it as soon as you can and then again every 12 hours. That will kill the bacteria that causes lyme. I just read it in a study they did somewhere.
It never use to be like this years ago. They are blaming it on global warming.
So be careful folks!

I grew up in Pittston ME. Live in FL now. Sorry Maine is so slow to open up with so few covid cases

Sorry to hear that you had it. I wear high boots in woods & fields when walking. Killed one of my dogs 3 years ago. Always checking for the bastards. Hugs! Brooke
I am lucky I have not gotten it....I have had ticks before....Cedarbrooke I did not know Lymes could kill a dog....wow....I treat my guys with agent that kills ticks if they bite them and kills heartworms if the mosquito bites them too....

I live in Lyme ct. yup, ground zero. Always in the woods and fields. I think I must be immune because I’ve had many bites and no symptoms.
Always used alcohol prep pads but I will follow up with the cream.
The mild winters are allowing the field mice population to increase. They’re the carriers. More fox would be great but they prefer a large stable territory and we don’t have that for them. Used to see them often but now it’s rare. Maybe the weather will get so mild we can introduce mongoose:).
There’s a medical center here where you can bring the tick (live though) and the test is very accurate. Not like the 20% human testing gives.
With such a mild winter the bugs will be bad this summer.
I found a tick on me a couple of years ago and was shocked~ I got it out but the doc didn't do anything for it. We are going to have a lot of mosquitos this year! Stay safe and healthy!!! Hugs
@serenity4now Yes! That just down the river from Gardiner! I have friends who go smelting at those camps in the river...
I think alot of us older people prefer to see this deadly virus completely eradicated before we venture out in public on a regular basis. Most of the stores around here won't let you through the door without a mask and some stores will even give you one for free. I gave all of my good ones away so I usually take take the free ones.

@ Kevin105 I think they are attracted to the color purple for some reason. My ex was here this morning to pick up some urns for flowers for the cemetery. She was wearing a purple sweater and I immediately spotted two on her sweater. They are just everywhere!

@ Ladybug7 I waited too long to see my doctor. It was on Thanksgiving weekend that I figured I had better go to express care because the rash had spread from my arm, all across my chest and it was burning bad. The doctor I saw, never bother to give me a test because she call tell it was lyme just by looking at it. Although the rash went away in about two months time, It would pop up again about every 2 months or so. I discovered that the way to beat it was to stop eating sugar. Consuming alot of sweet foods seemed to lower my body's ability to fight it. So I began to eat mostly salads and that seemed to work.

crazy times in Maine between the virus and deer ticks. we're beginning deer tick season here in Michigan and I try to stay on trails when out hiking, but venture off on occasion. will have to be more vigilant in watching out for them.
