The First Two Christmas Is Very Hard!!!
Sending all you moms lots of Love and Hugs for what ever year you are in for the christmas holidays! I noticed a few moms going through their 2nd christmas holidays without your precious Son/Daughter..This will be my 6th christmas without my Ryan. The 1st christmas I managed to put up a christmas tree. After I put the lights on I only put a couple of bulbs on. It took every bit of energy just to do that..I managed to shop for my daughter Erica and had all I could do is to avoid the mens department. The christmas music made me feel like I was walking in slow motion, everything I was in a bad dream, not real. My mind was flashing with visions, like a slide show, of all the younger years when Ryan was little. The pain was so intense, I had to make myself focus on my daughter. At that moment I happened to see this hugh 4 foot purple christmas stocking, it was deep purple, big & fluffy, with some satin on the top of it, AND,,, it was the only one they had hanging in a spot where I would automaticly know Ryan had something to do with it, lol, I believe Ryan led me to it, so I would buy it for Erica..SO I BOUGHT IT!!...Since that moment ,I held on to that thought, I felt Ryan was still with us through the rest of the holidays. Being a single mom, it was just the two of us. That christmas stocking got us through the 1st christmas...After Erica and I opened presents, I noticed she was taking over Ryans position, I could see him, I could feel him, working through her, Erica's physical being was so much like Ryan was...I know you moms know what I'm saying, I see Ryan in her, especially now that she is older..As each Christmas goes by, we learn so much more and feel so much more love and beautiful moments and memories...The hardest and worst part is all the days around the christmas day/holidays itself...SOOO, I made it through my 1st christmas...And you will too!! Promise!!
The 2nd christmas, reality sets in, just like most moms had said before me. My heart was shattered and my soul in my stomach was ripped wide open. You know, that big black hole in your soul felt beyond repair, I was in despair. My daughter & nephew were into trouble, doing drugs and partying with their friends, it was too much to handle and to much to cope with...I couldn't get out of bed, between work and going home, I couldn't do anything but crawl into bed, it was my way to forget about everything I had to do ... The last few days before christmas I managed to get out, pick up a few gifts for Erica, thinking I'll wrap them later, Christmas eve they were still left in the bags. I still hadn't gotten a christmas tree either. So the fake 1 and 1/2 foot christmas tree I bought for the hair salon at the retirement home. I grabbed it and put it on my kitchen table.. Perfect! I stuffed Erica's presents in her 4ft purple Christmas stocking and what I couldn't fit in it, I handed her the rest of her gifts in the same shopping bags.. I apologized for not wrapping her presents. She was perfectly Ok with it... I worried my self sick, thinking I was the worst mother for not decorating or wrapping her gifts. It ended up ok, so I worried myself for nothing...SO, All I can say is to be easy on yourself, don't beat yourself up... Like some of the moms say be gentle with yourself, do what you can do. If you can't do it up like you use to, everyone will understand...If they don't, TO BAD...Now I know what it means to be gentle with yourself...I couldn't wrap my head around how to be gentle with myself,lol....
The 3rd christmas was better and we did it up different then ever, we decorated a palm tree instead of a christmas tree.. It was a fun and different, so as time goes on we try to change things as we go, it has been easier each year since... Hang in there!! As a matter of fact, I need to get up and start decorating today.. .I find the last minutes of getting it together works out better, lol, hopefully it will work again this year, lol, It Is What It Is......
My heart is with all you moms who are having a hard time on there first & second christmas... You will get through it, Promise...Love you all, Kelly

My friend Kelly,,,what a great journal,,thank you for sharing,, my tears are running,,have any tissues??love you..Nora
Hi Kelly, your journal is like I wrote it myself. I lost my Ryan Sept 2010 so I\'m just about to visit the second year without my precious son.
I wanted to thank you for your care and concern about other moms who are going through what you\'ve already lived through.May you find peace in the holidays and thank you again for thinking about the rest of us. Hugs and love, Marcia
Thank you Kelly! You give hope.
We are on our 3rd Christmas, the first in the house that Lisa loved. Harvey and Cevyn came to our house the first 2 years.
For 10 years we celebrated Christmas here. My heart hurts but I am with her beautiful daughter and close to Lisa\'s grave - we visited yesterday and on Christmas Eve we will take a candle.
Peace and love,
Marlene
I to was a single mother. However my only child is now gone. I don\'t know how to fill the emptyness. This is my first Christmas without Christopher. I did put up a little tabletop tree and have put up some decorations, along with wreaths. Gifts are purchased for my mom, brothers and their families. Also bought gifts for my grandaughter, her half sister and her mom.
You are so right about the pain being intense. And if one more person says Merry Christmas to me, I think I\'m gonna scream. I do appreciate your encouragement and sharing how you made it through. I will try to heed your advise. Hugs to you, Debbie
Thank you for all of your support from one of the \"second year moms\". Maybe next year will be the year that I can put up a tree. If not, then not! It\'s okay to do things at my own pace. All of you have helped me to realize that and for that I send you all my thanks and love and so many nurturing hugs.
How true each word you wrote hit me hard... I lost my first son 11 yrs. ago and it took me about 10 yrs. just to lighten up alot and then the worst thing imaginable happened, I lost my youngest son Justin this summer. I try to think about just Justin right now and feel very overwelmed when I think about JJesse. This Xmas is going to be awful no matter what I do. Thank you for sharing your journal. Debbie
Mike passed away 5 days before Christmas in 2008. If is were up to me the tree would not go up. I have grand kids so I decided my Hubby puts the tree up, I leave with a girlfriend so when I come home the girls show me their masterpiece. They are very proud of THEIR tree. This year I managed to put up a few ornaments before I left. Baby steps !
Hugs Penny
This is my third Christmas. The decorations and tree are up. I am doing well. I certainly have my son in my thoughts a hundred times a day. Most of these thoughts are happy thoughts. I live a life without my only child. There is an emptiness that can\'t be described but known, I am sure by FMO, but I managed a good life. Find joy in the little things and be grateful for what you have.
I always think about my son - he never leaves me...but I still love Christmas, as did he. I don\'t even know why, I just do ......the Christmas tree with lights is still magic to me, despite all the pain. Wishing you a gentle, peaceful Christmas ~ Joanna
I\'ll keep each & everyone of you moms in my prayers! We will all get through this together., Promise!! This will be my 6 christmas without Ryan in his flesh. He has a great sense humor and lets me know he is still with me.. Your child does to, you just have to be aware of it. Keep your heart open, you will feel them...Wishing you all a loving peaceful christmas, I love you Moms, Hugs, Kelly
Kelly, your journal is filled with hope and also lets meknow that whatever unfolds is how it needs to be. Always open for change and anything I do or don\'t do is okay... To have that kind of loving validation means so much. Thank you!
Hope you got \"done\" what you needed to and if not... oh, well... :)
Loving care from me to you this day and in the ones ahead.
XO Joanie
Thanks, Kelly. That was a great journal entry. So helpful for \"new\" moms. Love and hugs, Beth
