the engine within - or the little engine that could :)

This has been a really great realization for me. I know I have touched on it before - but the more

I see this within me - the more I am able to cope. Not live unupsetted all the time - but better able to

put feelings or bad moments 'in a box' and move on.

So what am I talking about? I have an engine within me that needs to be engaged. I need projects to focus on.

If I am not around others - if I don't have someone to focus on - then I need to put that "little engine that could" within me to work.

Do the laundry, wash the dishes, shower and shave... whatever. I can't always keep myself occuppied or satisfy that engine within me..

and yes that is when I stumble and need to tell myself to accept my limits - but this understanding - of that 'go go' within me -

the more I start to look to the future and each day with a sense of knowing and appreciation (not grief ) for what to do.

I have a lifelong love affair with that book. My kids even liked my reading of the book better than they liked the animated versions. Getting past childhood challenges was often accompanied by choruses of, "I think I can. . . I think I can. . . I know I can. . . I know I can. . ."

But at the top of the hill, even The Little Train That Could took a rest. . .
