The Diamond Elephant In The Room

There is a diamond elephant in the room at my house.  No one knows how to talk about it.  Or maybe I just don't know how to talk about it, and my fiancee hasn't even noticed it.  Could be my diamond elephant. We had a fight.  We have had fights before, but this time he said some things that really really hurt.  So I took off my promise ring, and my engagement ring, put them on the table and told him if that is how he felt then I would take our daughter and I would leave.  Not rational thinking...but at the moment it was all I was thinking. He caught me in the bedroom packing and calmed me down enough to talk.  All of our talks end up coming back to him.  Poor him.  He has it so hard, being out of the house at work all day, then going out with friends three or four times a week.  He feels like I'm putting him on the back burner, that I don't care about him anymore.  Doesn't matter that I'm the one stuck at home all day, then constantly getting up with Marlow all night.  I cooled down enough to stay, and we went to bed.The next morning when I went to warm up the baby's bottle I saw my rings sitting on the table.  I slipped the promise ring back on, but not the engagement one.  Something is telling me not to put it on.  To wait.  If I did put it on it's not like we would rush out and get married or anything.  It would just be like it was before. But I couldn't wear it.  So I stuck it in a little box and tucked it away.I'm sure he has noticed that I'm not wearing it.  He has looked at my hands.  But he hasn't asked why.  He hasn't even acknowledged that he knows that I'm not wearing it.  I feel like I should explain myself, but at the same time, I feel that if he can't even ask about it why should I go out of the way to tell him?I guess we will have to wait until the elephant sits on one of us.
