The Day the Music Died
I'm a fan of news radio. I listen to it endlessly, sometimes hearing the same news item reported twice in a single hour. Today, I made a discovery--I'm listening to news radio in order to avoid music.
Let me explain. My husband was a big music fan. He was into the Beatles and nearly every 60s group. He had a ban back in highschool, hoping to be the next big thing. My husband and I came from different backgrouds, but we were both fans of 60s music. To me the 1960s were the best decade for music. Then my husband died and I turned off the radio. I stopped listening to my favorite internet music site too. This went on for two months and then I found my favorite news radio station. I never change the dial.
So tonight, after my discovery of why I'm listening to news radio all day, I decided to turn my radio to a music channel. It's hard and anything from the 1960s knocks the breath out of me. But I'm determined. I've been listening to music before my husband ever entered my life. My husband is dead and there is nothing I can do about it, but I can let the music live. So right now, as I'm writing this, my favorite new retro artist, a woman simply called Duffy, is wailign out a retro 60s sounding song. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep this going until I'm back to the new normal.

I\'ve had a very hard time listening to music for awhile . It started when my husband and I nearly divorced 11 years ago after being separated for 7. And now that he has died, it\'s almost intolerable. I grew up in a musical family and was exposed to all types of music- it was second nature for me to always have it on. I\'ve always equated music with happiness, joy, love etc. - I have to, like you, make myself turn that CD, radio, internet connection on - and it goes right off if that particular song is playing. My husband loved all kinds of music and would have it on all day if he could. I think that makes it even harder now for me to listen to it.
Nice to know I\'m not the only one.
I feel the same way about music. Smokey loved his 50\'s and 60\'s music - the golden oldies. I enjoyed them very much and Smokey was my best and most favorite dance partner ever. It is why I am reluctant to dance with anyone. Last evening Dave was over and we danced a little bit. He is getting me out of my avoidance of music and dance. It is all good. At least you figured it out. It took me a few weeks ago as to why I don\'t want to dance anymore. At least we think about these things to figure them it, which is all good. From Diane B.
To me, music is a way to express emotion. It is a part of who I am. I listen to it, and I play it. I can\'t sing it (very well at all) though! I totally understand what you are saying. A song can have the power to go straight to your heart. But believe me, that is a good thing.
proud of you for taking the step back into moving forward and living/enjoying life again. little by little..music does speak the words we some times can\'t find words for...hope that a special song comes on that just helps you to feel your husbands love around you in comfort. Hugs, Diane
