The Cult
Last Monday I went to that 12Step meeting which has that controversial suggestion in the approved literature that if followed to the letter could constitute emotional abuse. Nobody among the key players was prepared for the discussion. the reason being is that they were not interested in the topic. It was a lot easier to put personalities(those individuals that renderred such, approved literature) ahead of the principles (the 12 Traditions) then to put the principles before the personalities as is the teaching of 12 Step fraternities. Saying one thing and teaching another is a sign of cultism. The group gave unquestioning adherance to the leader, the head of the administration of the group who was able to say what he wanted unquestioningly, apart from myself who wanted proper answers as needed. I was not to popular. Excessive adherance given unquestioningly is another sign of a cult. Not being allowed to question acts of the leader, or in my case, the content of the questionable literature because the status quo was defined as putting the literature before the wellbeing of the group at all costs, a fundamentel breach of an important tradition stating that the wellbeing and unity of the group comes before all else. Another contradictary teaching that all are able to justify. To many "duh"s for me is a red flag that something is wrong. And what is wrong is the 12 Step Cult that has evolved over the years. Benevolent though it be it is still a cult group. It is a major deviation from how 12Step groups are suppossed to run during meetings. And most groups are to the degree of this literature cultic. I don't like volunteering to represent that which can cause emotional injury to others and/or contains illegal content as defined in Canada's Criminal code. It is not honest nor is it c aring towards others. They, at the end of the meeting recite the Diciples' prayer, which states the following: Forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who tresspass against us. If I ever turn towards God with zeal I'll have a lot that needs forgiveness. So the only thing to do is forgive the leader and other influential heckler there to assur me of a greater chance of being forgiven as I need to be. Also to have a peace in my mind. I'm just now happier then ever in my mind. these hecklers running this 12 STEP support group is not worth losing my happiness over. So much for that saga
As I said I'm happier then ever so my smiley remains the same I'm thinking about God more. But since conservative denominations are two liberal in many cases to be called Conservative, I'm thinking of going to a more Liberal assembly. At least I'd know what I'm getting into and there'd be less distraction as I'd take what helps and leave the rest. I might go somewhere next month. Enough news for now. :)

You can start your own 12 step group and run it your own way if that helps you but I wouldnt attend the one your so upset about ever again
thanks. It seems the fraternity is run that way. And even if I started my own group, it is only \"mine\" until somebody else is ready to take over as the group representative and turn that one into a cult too. A good idea though. :)
