The Cloud in the Sky

'It's like the cloud in the sky. When the cloud is no longer in the sky, it hasn't died. The cloud is continued in other forms like rain or snow or ice. Our nature is the nature of no birth and no death. It is impossible for a cloud to pass from being into nonbeing. And that is true with a beloved person. They have not died. They have continued in many new forms and you can look deeply and recognize them in you and around you.'
- Thich Nhat Hanh
"It's as natural as being born, and even if we stop being the individuals we once were, there's an immortality of organic molecules that's absolutely certain. Don't you find that a wonderful comfort? I do. To think that we'll become part of the grass and trees and animals, that we'll stay right here where we loved it when we were alive. People will drink us with their morning milk and pour us as maple syrup over their breakfast pancakes. So I say we should be happy and grateful and make the most of it. I've had a wonderful life; I've loved every minute."
-- Wallace Stegner, in Crossing to Safety

Feeling better already. These quotes, these ideas, are so vital, so pro-life, so rare and wonderful. I really needed the lift this rainy morning when even the joints in my fingers are complaining. My body is like a 3 year old tantrum, needing to be calmed and watched at all times. love you, Abby

None of our children have passed into nonbeing... They are everywhere and these kinds of thoughts to read help to reframe and offer comfort and peace. In gratitude for your sharing dear Sarah and I needed to let you know that our number 9, De, was here... A very special miracle graced our door a week ago. :) Her name is Eden and she IS perfect and does bring a feeling of paradise as she\'s so fresh from Spirit...

Hand in hand and heart to heart we go...
Much love, Joanie

Hi Sarah, It has been a while since I have wandered around the site....I saw the title about the cloud and I just had to come to this journal entry of yours. For one thing, Joe and I couldn\'t stop looking at clouds after Greg died. One day, we sat at a little beach overlooking the Chesapeake Bay close to where we live and watched the same cloud appearing and disappearing over and over for almost 2 hours!!! I\'m not kidding, TWO hours!! It is such a mystery...where do they come from and where do they go? On top of that, I listened to a whole CD series by Thich Nhat Hanh about grieving...wow, what amazing insight and comforting words he has. So...the cloud and its meaning have very special significance to me! Thank you, Sarah, for sharing these inspiring words with us. Tight hugs, Anne

Somehow I missed this entry--written when I was on vacation--and I forget to check back far enough when I returned, I guess. WELL-- what a perfect entry for me to read today after being a little sad about some other silly things that were bothering me earlier today! This statement about the cloud reminds me of a Native American poem that was on a sympathy card we received--the only one I keep by Mike\'s ashes ( Don\'t cry for me...)

Anyway--yes it is all a mystery, but the longer I live and deal with the mystery of all this, the more I am certain there is nothing to fear. Thank you for sharing this explanation. I will have to look up Thich Nhat Hanh and read more of what he has to say on the subject. I love the way you find these interesting thinkers and share them with us! xoxox, Cherie
