The Car

I finalized the paperwork on my husband's car.  My father wanted it, so I paid it off and gave it to him.  He really misses my husband and wanted something that belonged to him.  I have no idea what he'll do with two cars, but well, I knew I didn't want it.  Too many memories.
So yesterday I needed to get into the car for the mileage.  I opened the door and the scent took me back to when my husband was alive.  It literally took my breath away.  I sat there for a second, drinking it all in, remembering when I sat next to him as we drove around time.  It seemed like it was only yesterday, but in fact it's been seven months.  Seven months without the love of my life.
I didn't cry.  I can't anymore.  I've never been a cryer and the tears hadn't bought him back to me.  So now the car belongs to my father.  It will have a differnt license plate and a new address, but it will still hold the memories of a lifetime.  Dealing with this is the hardest thing I've ever done.  But I'll get through this.  I have to.

I sold my love\'s truck so I could get a more reliable car...I couldn\'t drive the truck, because of physical issues and I had to have a vehicle I could depend on. I had only ridden in it a couple of times, so it held no special memories other than it was his...when I watched it drive away, I stood and cried....I still have our old car...cannot bring myself to part with it, despite everyone telling me that I don\'t need two cars....as you said, it holds too many memories...I just can\'t handle the idea of it belonging to someone else. I\'ll keep you in my prayers as you process through this....so many hurdles to clear...but we have God to comfort and strengthen us as we go.
And friends here that understand....
Big Hugs, Tru....~E~

I have Chris\'s SUV. I drive it every day. It is bittersweet to be in the car. It no longer smells like him but he loved it so much that I can\'t bear to sell it. I may have been better off selling it but I am just not ready yet. I am glad that your father has the truck. It is still in the family and you can visit it if you want. It is nice that somebody will get use from it and love it the way your husband did.
Hugs to you~Ronda

Good luck to you with the memories of the car. At least your father got the car and you will see it around. I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. I can imagine that the smell brought memories of your husband back to you again. I am still waiting for the Letters of Administration, which are supposed to come soon. I will have to get Smokey\'s car in my name before I can sell it to pay off the car loan. My friend Carol is interested in the car as she does not have a vehicle. We shall see how that goes. I hope you have a good day from Diane B.

I remember that sensation when we sold my Dad\'s Chrysler...the aroma of English Leather washed over me....memories flooding in...Mike\'s oldest has the car right now and had told him I hoped in the end to be able to give it to him....but now that they are costing me more in legal fees fighting them that is looking unlikely. Good job girl in keeping the car in the family and blessing your Dad. Should be proud of yourself! xoxo
