The Business of Being Born

Well, I am on fall break from school. For my first 8weeks, I managed a solid B+. Those 8 weeks flew by and now I see how fast nursing school will go (hopefully) I am really, really liking it and I definetly feel like I am in the right place right now.   My hubby is still recovering from the surgery 10 days ago. His right sided incision opened back up a bit and so we are off to see Dr. Silber today. I know DH is pretty worried about this spot but I am hoping its nothing and Dr. Silber will have a solution. DH worked for the first time last night and is resting now. Still not smoking, I think I kicked cigarettes ASS!    I am bothered today by something I rarely talk about on here. Yet again, one of my beloved friends had a beautiful baby, once again delivered by cesaerean section. These are young, healthy women, with healthy pregnancies, and healthy infants, forced to deal with surgery and huge recovery for various reasons EXCEPT whats best for mom and baby.  This most recent girlfriend of mine is being treated for an infection at the incision line which is VERY difficult to treat. (We work in nursing settings and are colonized for a variety of fun germs.)  I am sick about the lack of education about childbirth and choices women have. Most think they have to do exactly what the doctor says. I think if you are even considering having a baby or know someone who is they HAVE to see The Business of Being Born. Although it might be a little too "hands-off" for some, it makes some really eye-opening points about maternity in the US. Women need to fight back and fight for what they really want for their baby. We are on no one else's schedule during our birthing process but our own.  Especially for those strong women who deal with IF, to wait so much longer than 9 months to get to the delivery room, birth can be such a beautiful, empowering, unforgettable experience. Don't cheat yourself--our bodies are DESIGNED to birth babies.   Ok, I'm off my soapbox.  Best wishes to all, have a great week!!!!

i completely agree, i did have a C section but i was very well educated on natural birth, my doctor is against C sections but i didnt have a choice because i got at 38 weeks pre-eclamcia so it was now or never and they tried to induce her 3 times and she was just to comfy up there so after 26 hours of labor i had my C-section my team was amazing and 20 min later i had my baby. i think it depends alot on the doctor as well i had a 4 in incision that was perfect and absolutely no problems. i hope you have better luck that me when your expecting but regardless of the end result you will have a beautiful healthy baby.
