The Bungalow

More cold, wet weather is putting yet another hold on finishing the exterior caulk and paint on the honey barn. I hate it when life meddles with my intended schedules. What's a nut job to do? Sigh. . .

To the side of this small ramshackle old farm house is a far more solid one-car garage which started it's life as the chicken coop when the in-laws had it converted into a garage in the 60's or 70's. It is as klugey a bubbaneered design as I have ever seen but somehow it came out solid enough that I used it for spill-over housing during the early phases of this project. I hid my smokey, toxic ass in there when any of the more judgmental family members came to visit. Even with the leaky old garage door in place, it became a comfortable enough spot that the judgmental ones began invading (can't you keep your figuratively non-toxic asses in your controlled courtrooms?) and Hubs and I decided it was worth converting. After we lined up a contractor late last Spring, I emptied it of my creature comforts and tore up the literally toxic old indoor/outdoor carpet in preparation for the conversion. The job was postponed when our chosen contractor got a regular job. He never got back with us and there it has sat for long enough to make me write it off as yet another *brilliant* idea that was not meant to be.

Hubby's bee biz assistant brought her newest boyfriend up to see the place a few weeks ago. He arranged through Hubby to finish the job. The work is nearly finished. I risking the sin of pride over how well Hubby and I have handled the handled the egg-shell piles that have herstorically built up around such unfinished projects. Let the dream motivate. Let reality dictate. We have taken to calling "The Garage" the bungalow.

It is too cold and wet for exterior caulking this morning. The weather forecast says it will remain too cold for a while. Think I'll go piddle in the bungalow.

The bungalow sounds ideal for piddling. Triple hugs arfie. Crossing my fingers that Spring breaks on the horizon early this year. We all seem to need it.

I love when this post Arfie because I have also been repurposing the extra spaces in my large new house, giving me each room names that describe there intended purpose. A bungalow sounds lovely and I’m glad you were able to find help in finishing that project.

I’m still tackling the extra rooms in our house which has now begun to necessitate some rearranging & rethinking of previously finished rooms. As I now begin work at last on the “Study” upstairs I have a lot of sorting and reorganizing to do between it and the “boudoir”.

But such projects make for great ways to stay busy when weather refuses to cooperate with our schedules. We’re four to five feet deep in snow up here and juggling between highs from 3 degrees to 20 degrees. It’s turn my basement into a old cold chest that has made some restoration projects not possible.

Hugs & support, Arfie!

Nah, I'm not helping. It is rarely helpful to try to help your contractors. I consider autonomy to be a defining trait in a good contractor. But he is far enough along that I can get started on the next phase of the project without getting in his way.

And the morning piddles piddled away my caulk stash. Again. Think I'll make the longer run toward the Metroplex to renew the stash. I'm in the mood for mischief and it's a BIG and still growing metroplex.
