the bad tooth is OUT.
remember why i am not a dentist fan.......it hurts mommy.....it really hurts.
the procedure was very intense......not what i expected. exhausting.
negative reaction to the novacaine. trembling, shaky hands & legs. stuttering and semi slurred speech.
eventually symptoms calmed down......frustrated when the dental assistant confidently told me i was suffering with anxiety. i told her that when i was crying while talking to my son pre-procedure, that was my anxiety. this was a reaction to the novacaine........it came on as a light trembling, escalated to legs shaking like mad.....and the weird speech thing. this has happened to me with other meds.....not very often, but enough to remember how much i hate it. i know a chemical reaction from anxiety.......sometimes symptoms do overlap, have commonalities........i think these folks are on the rooky side.......and that the dentist didn't really read my info.......cause if he did he wouldn't have tried to hand me a script for hydrocodone. then he wanted to give me motrin......so i asked him how that would do with xarelto.......he didn't seem sure, but he did say that he thought it might make it more difficult for my blood to clot, which seems like a bad idea when my mouth is bleeding for the next howmanyever hours.
i am a whiny dog. hanging my head. sorry.
had a shake for dinner. wish i could turn the pain in my gum off. took pain meds ---- not enough to stop the pain.
had to wait a while before leaving the dentist office.......real wonky. probably shouldn't have driven myself. what was i thinking? why do i think i am so tough?
color me idiot......i did call sam before they did it and started to cry, that anxiousness trickled out in tears. sigh, crying is not my thing.
the dentist wasn't the best or the worst........at the moment based on the pain it's hard to love any dentist that gives me this kind of pain.
i like dentists that comment frequently on what they are doing, what is happening, when they explain the procedure. i think of it like this.....i am the nascar driver and the dentist and or his assistant are the voice i should hear in my head while i'm taking those corners at high speeds. they need to talk me through it in a gentle professional intelligent way......a way that informs and reassures.
part of the way through the dentist got up, left without a word. then he came back and nobody said a thing, so i piped up, "is everybody ok?"
he told me he has an issue with his hand, that it locks up at times, that he has to let it work itself out........i'm not mad, not upset, just feel that he should have been able to tell me without me prompting him.......
in three weeks i am getting a bridge. i didn't know that they would be filing down some of the teeth.....seems like somebody should inform the patient of stuff like that. maybe this is common knowledge, but i was wonky today, feeling more vulnerable to pain and brain fog than i'd like. AND I am not a dental professional, this is not my bailiwick so shouldn't they inform us with more details?
the extraction cost $130.......the consult $18 and the xray $13.....big big difference from the specialist at $ 140 consult and $385 extraction.
the bridge costs $4,051. without the dental discount program they said it would have been over $7 grand. they offered an additional $400 discount if i paid it all up front today. so i put it on carecredit..........this means i will be paying $152 a month for 24 months interest free. usually it's interest free for only 12 months, but i asked if they could do any better and they offered a full 24 months no interest. it pays to ask.......so i will own the new mouth bridge in just two years. this will mean cutting out stuff.
i will have to reduce my meds costs ......note to self, as soon as mouth pain lessens contact united healthcare and get options for pricey dexilant. just can't afford it any more. who likes to have to think about budget all the time......but we have to. and even with these discounts and zero interests i don't like having these big monthly payments over my head for anything. makes me squirm in my chair. the young man at the grocery store told me to pray for a windfall.......he had just recuped from getting his wisdom teeth removed. if you could see my face......i look like a sesame street character that may have had a stroke.....the right side of my mouth goes down....looks halloween creepy. hope that rights itself soon. a little girl stared so hard at me in the store.......i wouldn't have gone in but the script wasn't ready at walgreens. and i wanted bananas and eggs and bread.........so there ya go.
also noticed the dental assistant rarely rinsed my mouth with water. (she squirted water for rinsing only two times total, but frequently used suction throughout)
i finally just asked her to rinse my mouth with water.....between the blood and the acky taste of the infection, the dentist called it pina colada gone bad......there's a new descriptive phrase for us
she said sure, no problem but didn't continue to rinse my mouth. this procedure is not a blood free deal....you would think water would be used with much more frequency. feel some jagged edges, which seems wrong.......but maybe tomorrow will be a better day.
also asked the dentist if i could continue taking the same antibiotic i am currently taking. why do i need more antibiotics? there is a lot of infection in my mouth from that bad bad tooth. so another round is in order. i told him i was taking levofloxacin. he promptly told me that was a med for thryroid disease. i said no.....i take levothyroxine for my hyprothryroid condition, but this other med is an antibiotic. he only wanted to give me penicillin. i can't remember taking penicillin straight up since i've been chronically ill......but based on the hypersensitivy issue i am concerned......but went ahead and got the script filled.
so then at the pharmacy the pharmacist asks me why the change in the antibiotic? why not have me continue to take the same one, as I do better on it, have less tummy issues and no hives/rash. i said the dentist insisted that penicilin was the way to go. his receptionist later commented that different antibiotics work to heal different areas. one is for the kidney, another is for x or y........and i thought how do you explain that you are not a rookie and that you are a hybrid when it comes to meds & reactions? especially when you are lightheaded, stuffed full of cotton and feel like you just got out of a chick fight and took several hits to the right side of your face.
when i got home i had a message from sister carol and a message to make that mri appt. sigh sigh sigh sigh sigh sigh.......i am invisible. i am a turtle.
i am clammy......and dizzy. this is not good.
enough of my wah wah wah wah.......my tummy is queasy, i thought drinking a shake after taking pain meds would be ok, but i think i might barf. time to lie down and pray for sleep.
ding dong the tooth is gone........the big bad tooth, the messed up tooth, ding dong the big bad tooth is gone.
heigh ho the derio singing high singing low......the big bad tooth, that big bad tooth is gone!
oh dear. this is not gonna be an easy night. praying for you and please pray for me.......

Thinking about you, Ruthie. Pain added to pain, never good. Don't try to drink through a straw! The suction will hurt, and may start the gum bleeding!
My daughter went through something similar 2 weeks ago. She had a bad abscess. X-Ray showed a broken root on the molar. She went to the same oral surgeon that fixed Tim's jaw. (This doctor is fantastic, and he is also a friend. He is a client of my daughter and sil with their home internet/computer business. Tim and Rachel lucked out! We took the dr. homemade strawberry jam. plum jam, and blackberry jelly.). He said the root of Rachel's had probably been broken for years. He had to cut in to get the broken part out, which meant stitches. Rachel was on a liquid diet for several days, and the stitches drove her mad. But she is a toughie. Since she was a toddler, her attitude has been, "come on, see if you can really hurt me. I dare ya!" She was awake the whole time. Local anesthesia only.
I hope your feeling better tomorrow. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to deal with all of the drug interactions and a bone head doctor + staff! Hey, maybe some nanner puddin' tomorrow? Hugs!
Oh, honey. I recently had dental work as well. I did not do well with it either. It sounds like you are feeling really rough. I really think the dentist should have been more verbally reassuring. It's not cool to get up and walk out without a word. Try to rest. Your body has been under assault. Take it easy. Drink a lot of water and take some psyllium to try to get it out of your body. Love you.
I hope your able to get some good rest/sleep Serce. Glad that tooth is gone. In my book you handled it all with dignity and finesse! ♥ and greenies
Ruthie, I am so glad it is behind you. It sounds awful! I had my abscessed tooth out to years and it was painless, although I hated the pina colada numbing stuff. I think I was so relieved to get rid of the tooth that put me in the hospital due to the infection that I would have been willing to pull it out myself with rusty pliers. I hope it heals soon. I'm sorry the dentist, who frankly sounded a little clueless, forced penicillin on you. I have a very short list of antibiotics that don't bother me and I hate dealing with pushy doctors who think they know better than me about my health. Was praying for you the day of the procedure, and will continue to do so. Love you!
