Thanksgiving\'s over
Well, made it thru Thanksgiving with the elderly lady who argues constantly and is totally abusive. I think I may have discovered her secret -- and the secret of why, despite the occasional insult (and slightly hurt feelings) I actually like her and I think she likes me: I'm a very intelligent person (sounds conceited -- but I know what my IQ is and I'm also a tremendous underachiever so not much to be proud of, not like I earned anything). She also is an extremely intelligent person. And both of us, to some extent, like to argue. Not just discuss -- actually argue. I think I'm the first person she's met in a while who is relatively honest (the person who introduced us is very manipulative) and is able to argue with her in any intelligent fashion. And I'm getting a little better Anyway, we made it thru the meal, argued most of the time, and from the expression on her face when she dropped me off she apparently had a decent time because we're already planning where we're going to go for Christmas. I also have decided to keep riding home with her; I'm as lonely as she is and I think in our hearts, despite our differences, we both want the company. Maybe this is something good to learn about myself, and to learn about others. And maybe I can learn not to be so sensitive. After all, she's originally from another country; despite being here for 25 or 30 years, her misapprehensions about the US are sometimes funny. As long as I can laugh at them (and not at her), we may sometime have a friendship.
