Thankful
So I realize I do alot of bitching. I take quite a few rides on the pity train. I'm not sure exactly when I stopped looking at the glass half full. I do remember when I was 21, I stepped in gum, and for the first time in my life I thought 'aw, shit, gum!'. Before then it was always 'I wonder what flavor that was?' My mother always told us that the world was littered with gum and dog poop, just waiting to be stepped in, and the best you could do was wipe it off on the nearest curb and go on your jolly way.
So I decided to write a journal entry outlining the good things in my life. For once, I'm going to leave the bad things behind, it's time to guess the flavor.
I'm thankful for:
-the roof over my head
-food, clothes, and companions
-that when I go to bed at night it's to clean sheets and a warm body, who's arm I know will snake around my middle and pull me in close
-my beautiful little girl, who can drive me to distraction then put me back together again just as fast
-my family, and, sigh, yes, my inlaws too
-my dogs, who are always happy to see me, even after I locked them in their kennel and left them alone for four hours
-free speech, which without, I'm sure I'd be in prison by now!
-my memories, and the smells that bring them fizzing to the top
-myself and my values
-the sparks of happiness I feel even on the darkest days
-the snow that won't stop falling, but only because it means I don't have to mow the lawn...of course there's shovelling....and it's a corner lot.....but I don't have to mow!
-the police officer who drives past our house every night at exactly 11pm to make sure our neighbourhood is kept safe and that all is well
-dailystrength and all the wonderful people on here who take the time to read my craziness and comment on it! You guys make my days bearable sometimes! Thanks
-a man who does work hard at everything, including being an ass, but also at loving me and providing for our family
-my teeth....long story, but I am very thankful for them suckers!
There is sooooo much more, but I don't want a six page journal! I just thought maybe it was time to shift my perception and see the sunshine peeking through the clouds.

A little late again at reading this, but I love it. Gratitude is basically what keeps me going. EVERYDAY I go over all of the things that I am grateful for. It\'s almost impossible to be miserable when you\'re focusing on all of the good things in your life. When I do that, I realize that the gifts in my life FAR, FAR, FAR outweigh the burdens. I think that is true for most of us. I think we\'re both truly blessed... and we just need to keep reminding ourselves of that. :) That\'s not to say that you should keep your negative feelings inside- that\'s not healthy either, and that\'s what this journal is for- to get it all out. A daily gratitude list is just a good way to not get stuck in the negative.
