Terrible fight with my daughter....
My daughter signed up to sell Amway not too long ago. She has no customers. Yes the stuff is very good, but Lip Balm for $19.00???? The things are SOOOO expensive!!
She can't sell it. Sooooo...
She's buying everything herself. And it's very expensive stuff. It's been months now and she must have spent I am guessing thousands on this stuff, plus you have to buy the training materials (which there is a lot of). Last month she got a couple of boxes delivered. I asked her if she had any customers. She said no. Okay, I let it slide. Stupid.
Last weekend she got a whole shitload of boxes delivered. I got really, really mad saying to her WHY are you buying all this stuff??? Obviously she has nothing to do with her money. She said she's saving money but I can't see how. I looked online to see if you need an investment or a contract with Amway, and you don't, so she can opt out anytime.
I am pissed off b/c she should be spending her money on trying to move out (she'll be 28 in a few months) not ordering stuff she doesn't need or use. There are so many boxes in her room that she started stacking them up, and she didn't even open some of them!!!
I told her don't think you're going to start piling up that stuff in my living room. Her room is like a Hoarders room and she says she has to order every month. Now she's very, very nasty, almost abusive.
She's pretty naive. I think someone is taking her for a ride, and she won't listen to me.
She says since she gives me rent for that room & that I should mind my own business.
I see everything since she lives here. I understand that I should mind my own business, but there's a limit on stupidity......Any advice or thoughts from anyone?

Not good. When things cool down I think you need to have another conversation with her. Let her explain why she has done this especially now with COVID. Online would be the only way to reach out to customers & sell this product. Maybe she does have a plan. Give her the benefit of the doubt to talk about it.
Hugs!
A little communication would help! Thanks Brooke!
I hope she has a plan too for both your sakes!!
YOu really need to talk to her about this and ask why she is buying so much if no customers. Maybe she thinks she has to keep buying? IDk, these kids today love spending money!!
We need a shrink on this site, lol
Agree with the ladies. Have another talk.
I know it's incredibly hard to watch a child make mistakes, especially ones that look glaringly obvious to us adults with life experience. But sometimes we have to step back and watch them fall. That's the only way she, and young adults are going to learn. If and when she falls she will have to pick herself up. Experience is a good teacher.
The more you push and pry the more closed off she will become and you dont want more strain and tension. What she does with her money is out of your control, Im sorry.
I suggest giving her space and perhaps some literature on Multi Level Marketing schemes and the pitfalls of so-called businesses like Amway. A quick google search turned up alot of dirt on them. There's also a netflix documentary, cant recall the name righ now but it talked about YoungLife and its MLM corruption. Good Luck my friend!
A cozy welcome to you, new friend. maria, sometimes our children (even the adult ones) are guided by the imagery of hopes to come or unconscious ways of defining "the will to live" independently. What's behind your daughter's attitude is really innocent. And I do understand how this is stressing you. However, she is at your mercy, and stress reduction for both of you is in terms of an agreement or the settlement to agree to not agree. If you use it against her as this is your home and what you say goes, then expect side effects of rebellion. Keep journaling and as I get to know more of what is going on then I'll pass on useful ideas. What I admire in you now is that she has a mom that cares.
Be well today! :)
Hello. Financial troubles can be a burden. Be thankful it is only financial, for that could be mended easier then drugs and alcohol struggles. It seems like your daughter had good intentions, and she really want to work this job at Amway. I have heard that they are expensive, and I am sure there are salespeople that made the company much better then it is in reality. She will only learn via experience and just tell her to keep her boundaries within her space with the boxes. It is ironic because I am in the medical billing and coding field. I keep spending money on the AAPC exams. After 3 different failures in exam attempts for different specialties, I finally decided to quit wasting my money. Each exam is 400.00 and I need a 70% to pass. I was getting 50%-69%, and I don't know how to study to get better. I did my best. Yeah, I miss all the money I wasted and my feelings are hurt. I realize the job is not for me and I have to find something in medical billing instead of coding. In conclusion, I hope your daughter realizes before it is too late that some occupations aren't for everyone. She has to be a salesperson, and Amway is kind of outdated anyway. Good Luck.
