Teeth Terror!
So I love the fact that there is such great health care in Canada. But I hate that dental isn't included. And since I grew up in a single parent family of five and up, dental was very low on the priority scale for us. As such, my teeth are a constant source of embarassment and pain.
So, Joey's sister works for a dentist who is willing to do work at a discounted rate. He looked at my mouth and told me that there are not alot of options. We decided to do the top first. He started two root canals, I have temp fillings in them and oooo do they ache, and he cleaned out another tooth. On Sunday I go in for 5 solid, painful, hours of work. They are going to cap off my back teeth on the front and put crowns on all 8 front teeth. On Sunday they put on temporary caps and in about a month the permanant ones will come and be adhered.
Now, I am terrified shitless of the dentist. My mouth does not hold freezing well and we can't afford to knock me out. I was told to ask for adivan(sp) but I'm not sure how that affects you. I am so scared for Sunday.
But the thing is, after all is said and done, I will have a beautiful smile. A white smile. One that I won't smirk instead of grin to hide. I'm so mixed up about it. Fear, anxiety, anticipation, excitement.
I had a baby. I keep telling myself this. I can do some dental work. Labour wasn't even an hour though, this is 5. And they didn't baby me. They told me it would hurt, alot.
Also, this dentist has the WORST sense of humor EVER! If he wasn't doing it cheap I would go elsewhere. But this is my one and only chance to have a smile I've only dreamed of.
It seems silly to fret over it. It seems ungrateful. The thing is, I'm just a little torn up. I'm not the best with pain. And I was told the temporary caps are ugly, and I will be doing the walk for kidney support before the real crowns come in, and it's a publicized event. But I have lived with an ugly smile for this long, I should be able to survive it.
Wish me luck....I need it!
