Sunday morning
It's Sunday morning here in North Carolina. We didn't go to church this morning. Steve fininshed his 24th cycle of Sutent last night. I lot of bugs around this time of year so we stayed in today. He will be scaned in a week or so. He has been scaned so much in the last eleven years it's unreal. For the first three years or so it was twice a year. When it came back it has been every 3 months. I once asked the doctor about so much of radiation or whatever they use for scans would hurt him and he responded that it was a necessity. With the Sutent I guess they want to know if it is helping. It has kept the cancer from spreading, and has kept the tumors he has from growing larger. I know he is so blessed to be able to tolerate this drug. I have heard some sad stories about Sutent. I stand amazed myself at his attitude about life. He is strong and rarely do I see him really down. He is so grateful to still be here. I think sometimes he may hide his feelings from me because I am not so healthly myself. I must say that he is emotional. But who isn't facing this everyday? I hope everyone is having a good day and I will post again soon.

Dear Wanda, it\'s good to hear from you. So marvellous indeed that Steve can tolerate Sutent so well - such a potent drug.
Emotional is not a surprise - but it\'s hard hard hard when your other half is hurting, I know. But good that he doesn\'t always hide it from you.
Can I ask you, Wanda, how does Steve deal with the knowledge that he will have to be \'on\' something for the foreseeable future? I think you wrote something about this in another post somewhere. Has he always known this, or has the realisation gradually crept up? I think that my D still hopes that in a couple of years he\'ll be cured, and he won\'t have to take anything any more....nothing wrong with hoping, I know, and i need to aswell, but....

I, too, am thankful that Steve is able to take the Sutent. It is helping many people, and that\'s so wonderful. Thank you for sharing and inspiring us. Steve is the best example that we can \"live with this cancer\"!

Hi Meriel, Steve\'s doctor told him at the beginning that Sutent would not cure him but would give him more time. We hoped that it would take all the tumors completely away. That was not the case. He has mets in his lungs and two seperate mets in the one kidney that he has left. If fact he only has half of that kidney working. Dr. Amin told him he would have to be on something from now on. I guess he has accepted that. You are right about hope. The longer they can survive the more chance that something new will come along. You are also right about the pain. He has never had pain except when he had the surgeries to remove the cancer. That is my worse fear. Seeing him suffer. I pray for mercey when that time comes. Is your husband in a lot of pain? I pray for everyone on this site. I hope you have a good week too.

You are right. The longer you live with cancer the more hope there is of something new being discovered. Both you and Steve are so strong and give hope to others here.

You and your husband give me hope and inspiration. My husband has been fighting his cancer for 8 years, and like your husband, has had many scans...just recently, it is only in two months because we are closely watching one particular tumor. We\'ve accepted long ago that he will be on all kinds of medicine for whatever length of time it can be effective and my husband is completely accepting of that. Last year we hit a wall in that he pretty much exhausted all the drugs out there including many of the trials that he would be eligible for...so we circled back on Nexavar that he was on years ago. The good news was that Nexavar has been effective again. Even if Sutent stops working, a person can try other drugs and then perhaps circle back to Sutent and it may be just as effective as it originally was. This is really good news I think because it buys a lot more time....for that cure that I trust will come for our loved ones in the near future.

Dear Linda, You give me hope that should this fail for Steve we could try something else and come back to Sutent. I find such comfort in this site as I\'am sure so many others do. Tell your husband hello and keep up the battle. My sister is doing well this morning after a mastectomy of Monday. Please pray that it hasn\'t spread to the lymph nodes. We hope you and yours have a good day. It is pretty here in NC and the temp is 65. Such a nice change from a few days ago. Wanda
