Stupid me
Some day maybe I'll learn to stop talking stupid risks and doing things I know are risky and dangerous. I'm not sure why I do that so often.
Last Saturday I was working, painting a couple classrooms, one at the top of the stairs. Above the staircase was a section that no one could quite reach to paint Dumb ass me...I'm like..."no problem :) I'll just use this chair to get into this ledge then spider craw over...then I can paint it. I'm good at risk taking behavior "
The safety director, who was right below me on the stairs made a sound as her jaw hit the floor, but It was too late to stop me .
Yeah ...I fell....hit the rail.
Now I have bruised ribs that hurt like hell. My own fault, and I know it.
Sometimes I just don't think....or something. Idk.

I can only imagine how painful that ia
You were trying to help
Dont beat youeself up for that
It was simply an accident
I hope that you have some time to rest and heal...xo
Please don't ever call yourself stupid!
Sometimes it takes the pain from an accident to make us realize that "maybe it's not a good idea to take that risk" when the next risky project comes up. Sometimes we have to swallow our pride and refuse to take risks when there is too much potential for injury. We all want to be the hero and get the job done no matter the risks but think about the pain from the last time and just say no to it. Call someone who is more qualified then I am. Let's live to see another day!
God Bless
Could have been your head or back. Live and learn. By the way, I'm a language kind of guy having an English degree ...technically, stupid means you don't know any better or have any intelligence. That is not quite right since you clearly are neither.
Dumb is traditionally where one is unable to speak. Were that true, you'd be one of the worlds best audial magicians by giving concerts. It also has grown to mean foolish or in cases of judgement where one knew better but did it anyway.
Everyone knows what you mean of course. Self criticism is natural but it is possible to start to subtly identify with words. If our teachers called us lazy when we have adhd as mine did, we kind of start to laugh, then identify and even be what they tell us. We do better by showing just how lazy we can be.
Want a good one to use instead? (No one I know uses it but it's fun) Edgar Allen Poe: imp of the perverse.
The "imp" can prompt behavior that goes against self-interest or common sense
Aww *hugs everyone* Thank you for being so supportive!
I have been really beating myself up over this....as all I can do without stabbing pain is lie flat on my back and try not to breathe too deeply.
I'm definitely not trying something like that again. It may have worked when I was 20, but I'll be 50 next month.....too old for crazy stunts I guess.
Touchedbythesun,
That's awesome! :) I love how you know and were able to explain the different nuances between the words stupid and dumb.
I'd never heard that before.
I probably say "stupid" cause that's just what I grew up hearing all the time. My mom called me both all the time, though she was half right with the "dumb " part because I didn't speak a word from 7 until 12 years old.
I really love the " imp " idea. That definitely sounds more like me.
Lol thanks
Sorry to hear that happened. But, I mean, it's clear you were just trying to help. Praying for you to heal and the pain to subside.
Also, as a person in my mid 50s now, I also sometimes find myself trying to solve problems the way I would've in my 30s or 40s, so you're not alone in that
I hope you'll let yourself off the hook and focus on healing.
Wishing you peace and rest.
Don’t beat yourself up to bad.. everything new ( new idea, new concept,, new invention…) will have its ‘oops’ moments! Everyone tries something knew, and feels like they fail… until they’re able to look back on stuff and realize they needed to fail so they could succeed!
I think the only difference in trying new thing now is your age… older takes longer to heal.
I use to work at a roller rink when I was a young adult… I lived on wheels… then I stopped going, got married, put on about 100 lbs, my wife and I had a kid, the kids was old enough to want to try skating.. and would you know, I couldn’t even stand up on skates… I was so afraid of falling, I didn’t even leave the carpet.. I wanted to cry, but my son was right there…
So after we both figured out we couldn’t do that, I took him out for ice cream….
Don’t give up because something is hard, or you think you fail at it… thing change from “back then” till now, I’m thinking there was a time when you were able to paint that spot on the wall, and nothing would’ve happened… and that’s what motivated you to try it this time… hang in there, you’re doing a great job!!
