Stress

So I cut the salt out and found my blood pressure was going up whenever I was in clinicals.  This is back in the day when I was in nursing school.  I ended up dropping out of the whole program due to this stress related problem.
Flash forward 4 years.  Again, I cut the salt out and my blood pressure remained high.  This in spite of the medication I was on.  It happened right after my husband passed.  I got rid of the medication, and just started working on my stress level.  It was hard, but the blood pressure went down to almost normal
Yesterday, I checked my blood pressure.  Can you belive it was 168/108.  It was before I found my new apartment.  I'm off salt, so immediately knew what was causing it.  That's why I moved so fast on this.  Well, today, I'm happy to report, my blood pressure is 150/98.  Not good.  But imagine an 18 point drop over night.
Stress is indeed a killer.  It leads to heart disease, cancer, back pains, just about anything you can think of.
We widows/widowers have got to be careful about added stressors.

So, wait, have I missed something? DID you get an apt.? Have you told us this? LOL I knew you wanted to get one, close to where you used to live, right?
Are you certain you need to be off your meds for BP? I have to take BP meds and it keeps mine down.
No, we don\'t need any other stressors in our lives, but, evidently, that isn\'t going to happen to most of us. Life can be a stress in and of itself. Hugs, Joely

I inherited my grandmothers LOW blood pressure. That causes problems when they attempt to take blood for testing. I always tell them to use a butterfly--they don\'t listen the first time, until I get poked several times and then they figure out that I was right. That right there causes stress for me. I should know by now after 44 years what works in drawing blood out of my body!

You got an apartment. When did you move in to it or when can you move in to it. I think it will take another stressor off your shoulders. We have to look after ourselves. After Smokey died of a heart attack, I started eating much healthier and am doing my own exercises at home along with walking. This last week i started sleeping 8 hours. Before this week I was only getting 5 hours of sleep which is not good for the body. I meditate and pray. We have to look after every area of our lives including the body, soul and spirit. My faith in God has kept me alive whereas i would have died myself along with Smokey. Life is a journey not a destination. We learn thru the process of living our lives. I believe God has a different plan for each and every one of us. Some are easy and some are hard paths to walk on but we will get thru it with faith in God and strength thru Jesus Christ. All the best to you and keep taking care of yourself from Diane B.
