STOP TO SMELL THE ROSES
I STOPPED TO SMELL THE ROSES THIS WEEKEND, REALLY, I HAVE ACTUALLY, FINALLY AFTER MANY YEARS OF TRYING HAVE A CLIMBING, YELLOW ROSE BUSH THAT IS BLOOMING!!! I AM A GREAT GARDENER BUT FOR SOME REASON ROSES ALWAYS ELUDED ME!! THIS ONE HAS QUITE A FEW BUDS AND HAS ALREADY HAD SEVERAL BLOOMS. THE BLOOMS DO NOT LAST LONG BUT THAT'S OKAY. I NOTICED THE LOWER LEAVES GETTING CHEWED. I SUSPECT AN APHID SO I HAVE THE ROSE BUSH SPRAY AND I AM GOING TO TREAT EVERY DAY.HUBBY AND I WORKED OUTSIDE FROM ABOUT 7:00 A.M. UNTIL ABOUT 4:00 P.M. WE GOT A LOT ACCOMPLISHED. WE PUT 100 MINI SOLAR STRINGLIGHTS UP IN 2 TREES, THERE WERE TWO SETS OF 100 EACH WITH THEIR OWN SOLAR PANEL. WE WENT OUT AFTER DARK TO LOOK AT THEM. THE EFFECT IS REALLY NICE. JUST ONE LITTLE AREA TO MOVE, IT IS SO HARD TO JUDGE IN THE DAYTIME.DID I MENTION I HAD TO RESEED MY GARDEN. THE GARDEN WAS ALL UP ON THURSDAY THE 18TH. WE THEN HAD SIX DAYS OF CRAPPY WEATHER. I WENT OUT ON THE 24TH AND EVRYTHING EXCEPT THE POTATOES, SHALLOTS AND GARLIC WERE GONE!!! CLEANED RIGHT OUT!!! SO I STARTED TO INVESTIGATE...THE GARDEN WAS JUST LOADED WITH SLUGS AND SNAILS. DAMN!!! SO I GET MY SLUG/SNAIL BAIT OUT AND FILLED THE GARDEN WITH IT. THEY ARE ATTRACTED TO IT, EAT IT AND DIE IN ABOUT THREE HOURS. I AM TRYING TO GET MORE BUT EVERY STORE IS OUT AS I GUESS EVERYONE IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEM. AND THE BEER THING REALLY IS NOT TERRIBLY EFFECTIVE. I WAS TOLD BY THE GUY THAT WORKS AT THE FEED STORE THAT IF I PUT A 3 INCH STRIP OF SEPTIC LIME ALL AROUND THE GARDEN THEY WILL NOT CROSS IT. WELL, IF THEY TRY THEY GET BURNED UP!!! SO I AM GOING IN SEARCH OF THE STUFF.TODAY IS A 24 TH ANNIVERSARY FOR HUBBY AND I. I AM SO....BLESSED!!!WELL, THAT'S ALL FOR NOW. BE WELL. DEBBIE

Happy Anniversary, hope you did someting special. I guess just having each other is special. It took me a long time to get to grow too, always bugs. Can you plant seeds this late? How long is your growing season? Good luck hope you kill those little buggers. I do use the beer. xo
We don\'t seem to have slugs and snails up here but boy were they a pain back in Washington/Oregon. I used the septic lime or salt around my garden and that did a lot of good.
I love climbing roses, well love roses and I\'m trying to get a bunch of the hardy ones going in my front garden. I just wish they didn\'t take so long in the season to start blooming. A couple have the beginning of buds on them now so I probably should feed them or do something to make them happy.
