Starting better self care
I haven't taken very good care of myself for many years. I was too busy taking care of others. I think that's where some of my guilt comes from. My mom had me do a lot chores. She hardly did anything especially after she became an alcoholic. Every day they would fight. I hated that. After awhile I voluntarily started doing the housework to try and keep the peace.
My parents were big on shaming. It went this way. My mom and I would get into a fight. That evening mom would tell my dad and make the fight sound like it was my fight. There would be a big argument and they would tell me all about what a horrible person I was.
There was a lot of criticism in the house even over small stuff. I figure they thought someone being correct was more important than good mental health.
I going to work on fixing this damage. That and therapy. I have to remember that I'm a worthwhile person.
