Sometimes You Get What You Pay For!!!
About a year and a half ago Marlow broke out in sores on her mouth, chin, neck, and tongue and gums. It was BAD. She couldn't eat, drink, she sobbed all the time....nuts. We took her to the doc and were told it was Impetigo...given medication, and in a few days it was basically gone.
Fast forward, she has had it five times this year. And EVERY time the docs tell me there is no way it's impetigo and they give us all this stupid herpes medication...creams, liquids, pills. And NONE of it works. My daughter gets more and more in pain and she cries and I can't get a single damn doctor to just give me impetigo medication! Last time it was down her throat and onto her chest, on her hands and arms and the one doctor told me it was from her licking her lips in the cold!!!!
Last time after four different doctors I just used some Bactroban a pal had and it cleared it up. Now she had another sore today, and her dad took her to walkin....and they prescribed cold sore cream. It's already starting on her chin. And I have no access to Bactroban this go round I don't think. Wich means more pain, more tears, another visit to the ER at stupid oclock at night to argue with an overworked, underpaid doctor!
Do cold sores spread like this?? And that fast? She will go from one to about forty within twelve hours. Plus, does Bactroban cure both? I'm so frusterated! I just want what I KNOW works, instead of having to go through doctors to try everything I know DOESNT work! I can't get into see our family doc anytime soon, so I have to rely on ER docs and walk in clinics.

That is not cold sores. I have gotten them my whole life and I have had them spread quickly but they don\'t spread down arms..Ive never had to go to and ER Dr..does she have a pediatrician?
She doesn\'t, just a GP....we have a serious shortage of docs here. I called her doc and he said he couldn\'t get her in for a couple weeks at the earliest! This time around it is just staying one spot....so maybe this one is a cold sore? Normally within a few hours of me finding the first spot her whole mouth, chin and neck are covered. But I noticed this one yesterday afternoon and it\'s still just the one.
I had to go to the ER last time because she was bleeding from the sores that kept cracking...she didn\'t pick since it was painful to touch them, and she couldn\'t eat and had lost five pounds...she was only twenty eight pounds to start with! They did a swab and told me it was inconclusive...then the ER doc assigned an oral and cream antibiotic. But I used my pals Bactorban and it cleared it up.
Maybe it\'s not impetigo OR cold sores....well, this time it might be a cold sore and I jumped the gun and rushed her to the doc because I thought it was the sores and didn\'t want her to suffer, but maybe all the other times it\'s something else?? I\'ve also read that impetigo is highly contagious.....but she has been in contact with kids when she was fully broken out, before we knew what it was, and no one got it. My spouse is immunosupressed putting him at high risk for impetigo transfer and he never got it, I snuggled up with her, applied cream to her sores, and I never got it. So maybe it\'s something else all together, ugh. I hate seeing my baby suffer.
Hi Jolene,
I really don\'t know how I ended up here, but I was reading your journal and your daughter sounds a little like my son when he had canker sores. He really had bad canker sores and he was trying to find out why, and if that\'s really what they were.. He went to this Dr who told him he had an autoimmune disorder called Pemphigus. these sores start in the mouth and work their way outside of the mouth. His didn\'t, but I think maybe you should get the Dr\'s to check and make sure she doesn\'t have this. Good luck. I hope they find out what it is.
Thanks :) She does get regular tests because her father had complete kidney failure by the age of 19, it began when he was a child, so she get\'s checked through questions and physical exams right now. In a few years or if she exhibits troublinf symptoms before then she will get bi annual bloodwork done :(
I\'m going to book her in for a check up and I\'ll bring it up then :) Thanks ladies!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mupirocin I dunno if that helps.. there aren\'t many uses for that med, but impetigo is not the only one.
