Something to accept

I had an appointment today to go in for another note for work. I talked to my doctor and she asked about my long term outlook and I had to admit that I know I will never be able to go back to that type of work. My pain doc told me that and even physio told me but I didn't want to admit it. Then my pain doc referred to me as 'permanently disabled' and again I brushed it off and didn't let it sink in... I've been in denial and still hoping that I will recover and be my old normal self again. Today I have to accept that my job is history... I can't go back, never will be able to so I need to give it up. There is no point getting a doctor's note every three months with no end in sight. This note simply says I am "unfit to return to work and have been classified as permanently disabled"; it's over and it is not easy for me to accept.

It hurt my pride to admit to myself that I was permanently disabled. After 7 years of suffering I finally got a parking placard for the car. It is not what others think of me, it is what I think of me. The placard has saved me from having to endure a long painful walk, then I realized IT IS NOT ABOUT WHAT I CAN NO LONGER DO, ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT I STILL CAN AND DO, AND DO,DO!!!!lol
Mourn for a moment, and then move on Sweetie. what can you still do...

Thank you, I know there is still alot I can do. I need to work at doing things daily that bring me a little bit of joy. And not doing the things that cause me so much pain. I\'ll probably be like you, 7 years to get the parking placard, I\'m not there yet. Thanks for your encouragement, I appreciate it alot.

I soo much understand what you\'re going through. It\'s truly a hard fact to face and accept in our lives. As said above, mourn your past and find new ways of doing things that you enjoy, and try to be kind and patient with yourself as we are our own worse enemies. Since you\'re a fellow Canuk, I\'m assuming you will be applying for disability. just to let you know they always seem to turn everyone down in qualifying after their first attempt, but most receive it on their second attempt, so just don\'t get deterred! All my best to you and Big Gentle Hugs, Blaine :)
