Something I wrote...

Everyone has chains. Everyone has chains holding them back. Some people don’t have many chains but others have so many chains that they can hardly move. Some can just carry their chains while others have to use all their strength just to move them an inch. I am one of those people that have to pull with all their might.

What are my chains made of? They aren’t made of a heavy material like metal. My chains are made by depression. My chains of depression hold me back from a lot of things. There are days where my chains are so heavy that I can’t even get out of bed. I need to rest myself for the next day so I can pull them again.

There aren’t only depression chains. There are also anxiety chains. They hold me back just as much as my depression chains. The difference is that the depression chains make me want to give up and the anxiety chains scare me away. Have I been able to pull my chains around and do some of the things I want? Yes, but it took all of my strength.

My chains aren’t visible to the human eye, but they do exist. Kind of like air. You can’t see it, but it’s there. Everyone has these chains. Everyone has something that they are carrying around with them. I have tried cutting these chains off but I ended up missing the chains and cutting my wrists instead. Sometimes for no reason, more chains are added.

This is well-put and a lovely but sad poem. It also made me think of a youtube video, specifically when she talks about her invisible disability. People can see broken legs or wheelchairs, but they can't see depression.
