So Upset!
Yesterday I ate a large box of chocolate candy and some white castle hamburgers full of salt. It's my farewell for eating junk.
It all started back in August when my doctor was bought out by another hospital. I called to get my blood pressure medications only to find myself on hold for 45 minutes and then told that I'll have to go to the pharmacy. Long story short, the pharmacy told me they couldn't fill it. It would have to come from the doctor. I went back and forth, finally getting through to a nurse by lying and saying my blood pressure was rising. It was, but nothing to be alarmed about. The medication was one my doctor warned me that required medical monitoring to withdraw from. I felt I had no choice but to do whatever it took to get the medication. I was made to feel like and addict.
Yesterday I went to see my doctor. I was told that I couldn't have more medication unless I saw her. I was running low on all my meds. I explained that I had seen her in January, less than a year ago. I was told this was no longer acceptable. I made the appointment with thunder in my ears.
I was surprised to find out that I wasn't the only one.
My doctor came in filled with apologies. She said that the new rules forced her to have me come in every six months. A computer monitors this, so it's not possible for her to override it. In addition, I would have to submit to medical test every year or no meds. In short, my meds are being held hostage! She talked about all the paperwork that is chasing doctors out of the fields. I know this is true because I read an article about it. It's why there's a doctor shortage in the US.
I am semi-retired, so I pay for my own insurance through the Affordable Care Act. We call it Obamacare, and although it is better than nothing, It pays for nothing too. My doctor's visit and lab test will be paid for by me. I get to pay for the insurance. I do not receive the subsidy so it's not cheap.
So, here I am, making a decision and setting a goal. I will not be forced to receive medical assistance that I do not need. I'm more than upset that in a so-called free nation that this would be allowed to happen. The wonderful treatment I received in the past is sadly no longer possible. Hospitals are now being controlled by a higher power and it is not God.
So, my goal is to get off meds and therefore free myself from the bureaucracy. I will have to lose weight and monitor my blood pressure daily. It also includes exercising, something I stopped doing when I injured my ankle.
Things are only going to get worst as hospitals become larger. I intend to be completely independent before that happens.

Wow! That is pretty bad. I am on low income so BC Government pays for my medical but it is just the basic. I bet if I had to go on meds that I would be paying for it myself as well. The medical system all over the world sucks. Its up to us to look after our own health. DB
You are so right. We need to be more responsible for our health and make the hard decisions about how we do it. My Dr. Has turned so much over to his physician assistants. They over look way to much, so I am looking for a new Dr. Here\'s hoping it all works out for you.
I know what you mean, the medicines I\'m on I have to go every 6 months so they can check my liver, etc to make sure it\'s not causing any problems. I need to do the same thing: exercise more, eat less and get off all my medicines too. At least bigbear\'s insurance continued after he died so I\'m covered and I don\'t have to pay anything at the moment, but that could change if the cost of it goes up.....take care, good luck and I know you can do this and anything you put your mind to....hugs, Sandi
I lost my insurance the minute I lost my husband. I pay huge amount through cobra insurance and have barely any coverage. Just trying to pay it until I can get Medicare.
