So sad for my husband
I guess it marks a passage in time that I can really feel pain and understanding for how Jackson's loss affects someone else, not just me. I was traveling by myself yesterday and sitting in the airport lounge and watching a father and teenage son interact. It was so normal and so devastating at the same time. I started crying for my husband and his loss. We still have our daughter, but i have a different relationship with her than he does. We both have a great relationship with her, but she calls my cell phone first with news. And Ken had a different relationship with Jackson, closer in some ways than mine, and now he's lost that forever. It hurts even more to realize how much he is silently missing his son and their relationship.

My heart aches reading this as I have felt and thought the very same thing with my husband...
It is a moment when our private pain moves into a collective sorrow and knowing that there is nothing we can do but acknowledge and companion.
I\'m sad for our husbands too and am grateful for your journal because sometimes I get moving along and \"forget\" about how this must weigh and feel for their hearts and beings.
Gentle care and yes, truly a passage for you and one I know that hurts.
Heartfelt hugs and gratitude for your words today,
XO Joanie

Yes, I too have been there. Dave and Josh spent lots of time in the garage together! For almost 5 years, Dave could hardly be in the garage at all. The first 2-3 years, Dave kept so busy, he hardly spent any time with me. We understood each other and were still very close, but I just knew it would be awhile before we would be \"on the same page together.\" Now we are, for the most part 4-3/4 years into it.
It is hard to explain the roles each son played in our lives because we both loved them very much but differently. Now Dave and Chris have a different relationship. I can\'t begin to describe it. Chris is a self proclaimed \"mama\'s boy\" (until and if he ever gets married.) He is also my friend and psychologist.
Your husband is a lucky man with you understanding the loss is different for each of you.
Sending love,
Leda
So true...took me awhile to realize it. One day Dan said to me \"Do you know how hard it is to walk into the local Wendys?\" That was when it really hit me - what he was going through - completely different relationship than what I had with Billy. Hugs, Ann
