so I'm a home owner
Just before I got official ownership of a house form my parents estate the people that are renting it said they were moving out. They gave me their 20 day notice. Actually it was only a 23 day notice because they told me on the 5th and there is only 28 days in February.
Anyway they were good tenants and I thought there would be no problems but now it is the 8th of march and they have not given me the keys and officially moved out. They have mostly moved out but for some reason they have not finished doing it and the house is left with a bunch of stuff still there and they have not moved out. I have not been paid rent for February tho they did pay a last months rent as part of their deposit so this is covered but now they are running into another month and I have no idea how long it will take to get them out and the house ready to rent again.
Legally I cannot enter the house or do anything with the stuff left behind until they hand over the keys without a court order which means lawyers and costs and time. I'm hoping they will finish moving out on their own in a timely manner and hand over the keys without all that trouble. There is a $500 deposit stil to take their overdue return of the keys to me out of but it will only cover a couple weeks at most before I am loosing money. but mainly I am concerned with the house being left unattended which could cause lots of other problems arising.
So far the anxiety is minimal but every day that passes it is building. With my brother still without a car and every other day asking to borrow mine and now this I feel that the coming few weeks may become very stressful.
