Sleep Journal?

I'm not so good at journaling, but maybe if I try to keep a sleep journal, it could help me get better sleep. About a week ago, I had a crazy dream and it disturbed me up until I texted my best friend about it.

Anyway, last night I took valerian root and got in bed. I know I need to break the habit of being on my phone in bed, but I'm not good at putting it down before my brain is spent - many times I've put my phone down, but then my brain starts racing through thoughts and I end up grabbing my phone again to ease those thoughts. So I need to figure out what works for me on that side.

I took the valerian root and got in bed with plenty of time before I needed to fall asleep, about an hour as that is around the time the valerian root takes effect. I put my phone in due time, get comfortable with the weighted blanket and it doesn't take very long for me to fall asleep.

But then I wake up about 2 hours later. It took about 2 hours after that for me to get comfortable and drift off to sleep again. I didn't grab my phone, and I actually could have drifted into very light sleep during those 2 hours - I checked my watch a few times so I know I was awake, but I wasn't wide awake.

Anyway, drift off to sleep I did. I woke up after 4 hours, a little bit before my alarm, and I know it was a deep sleep. No dreams, either. I feel good this morning. I can tell my quality of sleep is getting better, just need to work on a few things. Like the weighted blanket is awkward and I seems to hurt my feet and ankles if it's covering them. That's not the worst thing since I normally sleep with my feet out of a blanket. The main thing is getting comfortable in one spot and staying that way - I'm a toss and turner, so it left the weighted blanket confused.

I definitely encourage writing a daily journal, and in your case, a sleep time journal will help you figure out what works, what does not work, and how to keep adjusting until you get the right mix of everything.

Excellent work!
