Sitting down to write the letter
So I can no longer put it off. I am going to have to sit down and write a letter to the judge doing the sentencing. I put it off for as long as I could because I won't lie it just makes it that more real. I can't pretend that isn't going to happen.
Ah man it is just going to be a big ball of emotion. I have to make sure I don't add too much emotional stuff because I am sure that the judge just wants the facts. At least it is the same judge from the beginning of this whole ordeal. So he seems to be sympathetic since he originally didn't believe that he should be facing 1st degree charges.
I am making it my task to see who is going to be there for his sentencing as well. I won't show a strong front that his friends and family are standing behind him 100%. Especially since I am not sure if the victims family will be there, but if we don't show a united front then I am afraid that will somehow discourage the judge at giving a lower sentence. I pray that he gets the minimum of 13 yrs and can get out in 10. It is just frustrating and scary. As the sun sets each day it just brings the finality of everything that much closer. Granted it will at least have a conclusion but then the unknown world begins.
Where will they send him? Will they keep in the state? I will be distraught if for some god awful reason they decide to have him out of the state. I mean it is bad enough that he has to go into maximum security because it is considered a violent crime in the eyes of the law. Doesn't matter that he gave his comments without a lawyer present or that he could've ran but instead was a man and admitted that he might have hurt someone. They forget the fact that he has never had a major defense before, and that he did what he did to protect those he loved and himself in a situation that could have cost him his own life. But no instead lets throw the book at him like he intended to end someone's life. I see the haunted look in his eyes and know that he carries the weight of the act upon his shoulders everyday unable to really talk about it to anyone. He can't even talk to me about it since I was there when the incident happened.
Wish I could take part of the burden upon myself so that he didn't have to go through this. I am not saying that he shouldn't have to serve some time, I knew that when we were going into this that it was inevitable. I just didn't think that it would be so high because in my eyes and that of his families he was doing what any normal person would do to protect those who he loves.
Amazing how my mood can change in an instant. But I will perk up and be grateful for the time I have. Now on to writing this letter.

Wow, you sure have a heavy load to carry. I am sorry. I know you have to write the letter of your life. Yes it will be very hard. Be careful not to say anything they can read other things into. We don\'t know how they perceive our words. They twist them into what they want.
I don\'t think I know the whole story. Maybe you haven\'t told it. Sounds very sad that he was protecting people he loved and has to pay for it so badly. I hope you can find the right words. I think you can. You seem to be able to express yourself quite clearly and smart.
I never wrote one, didn\'t know if it would do any good. Just depends on the judge, and his mood for the day. They say its better to get a morning court date, they are usually in a better mood. If later in the day, they can be tired, and cranky. Isn\'t that great, their lives depend on moods, not on a standard rule of doing things so important?
On a lighter note, I heard if a judge had good sex right before work, he is mellower. Send in the hookers.
Not funny, I know. I feel so bad for both of you.
His court time is early in the morning. His lawyer is putting together a package of letters for his cause and to help the judge get to know him as a person not just a case.
What a sad story..I am so sorry for what you are going through...horrible and sad for all involved..I can\'t even imagine..I am not sure how it is in your state but my husband is in a minimum security and there are alot of guys that come in from the high security after some time to filter them back into society I guess..I hope he has time to read the letters..I think you wrote this late last night, was he sentenced yet? I am so sorry..this is what I am talking about when I say how unfair it is to the family..Not only missing him, worrying about him but you have to deal with life which is already hard enough..Will they be taking him in right away or will he have time to sort things out and say his goodbyes..I don\'t understand why the minimum time is is so long..Can he suspend any of it? did he know the person or have trouble with him before? Sorry you don\'t have to answer I am just frazzled to hear how this can happen when it was not a his intent..very sad I will add you to my list of prayers. Maybe that is why I am having so much trouble with all of this..I just wish I could do somthing and you cant do anything but try to heal. God Bless and hang on tight!
Ya I was up late and had to stop because I was a ball of emotion and started to feel a lil bit queasy. Had the beginnings of a migraine so I went to sleep lol. Ya he didn\'t know this person at all and there was a fight that was started earlier in the night but I was outside smoking so I wasn\'t there. I will say this that we left the scene but only because the guy had walked away. It wasn\'t something i thought I would do but when you are in a situation you never know how you are going to act until you are in it. However, he called right when reached his friends house because I was afraid that the guys friends were going to try to jump my husband. Therefore thats how it got be complicated.
When he goes in for sentencing that is it he just goes into custody. His lawyers said that after some time has passed he can be reevaluated for a minimum security or something like that. Also closer to the end of his sentence he could be eligible for a halfway house or something like that.
So that is a little more of my story. Finished my letter but feel like it needs a little tweaking lol.
