Should teachers really dig into students' personal lives?

there are way to many reasons for me to write an artical or rant on teachers coming into the lives of students. i, as a teacher tend to do it myself. rarely, but i do. but as a student, i find it invasive, and often times makes any situation at home worse.
currently, we are doing a 'project' where we go to our parents, and have them write what they view our ideal mate as, then they must turn over the paper and see what we view it. the teacher finds this healthy and it is mandatory we do this.
she does this often, and usually i just throw in into the "never going to be done" assignment pile in my room. (recently i just emptied.) should i do this? or should i confront her and tell her that i'm not able to do these student/parent projects for a reason?
