should adult kids pay rent
I am a mom who has always takein care of everyone and everything but more and more I just feel like running away from everyone. My kids are ages 14,17,21 & 24..I have always worked very hard to provide for my family. At times working 12 hour shifts ,seven days a week or working two jobs. What ever it took. Then I was in a serious car crash and couldnt walk for three months.even though i wasnt a 100 % I went back to work.It took me a half an hour just to get up the steps to get into the building and most nights my husband met me at the car to help me back into my house because i was in so much pain.My job closed shortly after I went back. But I still tried several other jobs only to realize my pain was too much.It was then I went on disability...Well, I was very proud of my oldest boys that they found full time jobs. They needed reliable transportation for the 45 minute rides to work so i went with them and they each leased new cars.In the understanding they would have to pay their own car insurance..And I told them it was time to start paying rent..200 a month...After a year my 21 year old moved out to try it on his own and hes failing terribly but thats another story. The frustrateing part is my 24 year old .He always complains about paying his rent.Part of me feels guilty for asking my son to pay rent but then i feel its time for him to grow up and pay his way..I wish i could live someplace for 200 a month. He has all the comforts of home right in his room,tv,vcr, game system, mini frig, air conditioner in summer and sneaks in electric heater in winter,he does wash everyday, showers and eats.everything provided for him includeing cable with every channel available plus internet. He leaves dirty dishes all over the kitchen and has friends over every weekend...I mean am I wrong for asking him to pay rent??hes driveing a 2015 car and its pretty expensive and he spends alot on beer and cigs on his days off. Then he complains I take all his money by asking for rent..Its a constant fight around here.I am already stressed enough tryin to rob peter to pay paul and peter is broke....Am I a bad parent for asking for rent??

NO, you are NOT being a \"bad parent\" for making your son pay to live in your home. I would even go so far as to ISSUE A MANDATE that he WILL clean up after himself OR there will be a \"maid service\" surcharge to his board bill. He may get angry with you about it, but you will be giving him an important life-lesson called \"THE REAL WORLD.\" THAT will make you an even better parent! xoxo
Not at all!!!
He would be very hard pressed to find anywhere else that he could live for that little. If he complains again, I would suggest to him that if he doesn\'t like to pay the rent to you he should look for somewhere else to live for sucha low rent.
He needs to learn what life is really like. There is no such thing as a free lunch.
no, and if he thinks it\'s too high he can always find some where better. and if he doesn\'t clean up after himself maybe it should go up
Thanks so much for your comments,i truly appreciate it
