Settling in
After 3 months in a bedroom with unfinished ceiling, unfinished walls, unfinished floors and doors leaning against a wall.. I woke up last week and decided enough is enough. Its bad enough living under construction for 7 years, but having your personal environment a mess, messes with your head. I was getting more depressed by the day.
About 3 years ago (amazing how time flies) I attempted to renovate an apartment in my home for rental. As these things go, my 2 week project ran 5 weeks and never did get finished. Contractor got 90% there before we ran out of time and patience. I've been so ticked off about it I have barely set foot in the area since the renovation.
So last weekend in desperation my son and I hauled my king-size bed into the apartment (boy that was a fun feat!), did a quick cleanup and voila! OMG! I can't believe how good it feels to be in a a room with walls .. and paint, and ceilings, and trim. And a working, finished bathroom (my master bath has been unfinished for 2 years). The unit has its own patio and kitchen as well! ALLELUIA.
Already I can feel the difference, it really is nice to live in a finished space, it does matter! I am also closer to the laundry room and will be able to cook without having to walk up and down stairs. The good Lord knows why I have not had the motivation to rent out this space all these years. At the time I did not need it but I now it is just what I need.
So step by step I am getting back on the road to optimism. As soon as my electrical woes are settled I'll be able to go food shopping and stock up on fresh veggies which I can now make into nutritious shakes because my kitchen is right next to my bedroom. I can do laundry, I can hang out with my son, I can even garden. It feels like getting back pieces of my life that I had lost.
Isn't it ironic, I spend 7 years building a 5000sq ft dream house, only to go right back to the 750ft apartment in which it all started.
I know that one day I will realize the dream .. next time I move into my dream master suite it will be truly SWEET!

Whelp! It all worked out for the best, didn\'t it! WAHOOOOO! The place sounds really nice, and eliminating stairs is SUCH a smart move.

Hey max, change of scenery is as good as a holiday, so they say.Even if you have to stay in the same building, hey. We do get very affected by our environment, for sure.So good idea moving, less stress, more convenient, and a little more precious energy saved.You can have a little fun with it by imagining you are the carefree tenant downstairs in the apartment, and the landlord upstairs is going to take care of all the worries, and deal with the renovations whenever she chooses.Have fun.
