setting expectations
I am at home. It's Sunday morning. I woke up later than usual today,
got a Starbucks, whatsApp'd my sister and then came home. I folded laundry, had breakfast,
washed up, showered and dressed and was in touch with family and friends.
I did the weekly grocery shopping too and now all is put away, little chores done.
Focused on Blue for a bit and he is being his usual cute but royal self lol.
It's the weekend and I am still enjoying the afterglow of having volunteered
yesterday. It felt like something kind of sacred.
Anyways I signed up to do it again, next Saturday - at the same location...
I've kind of come to a standstill here at home now though, later morning that it is.
Run out of things to do...
I don't really know what to do with myself and for the most part staring at the TV
and Iphone is starting to annoy me.
My therapist and I were talking about managing expectations. It's true and a really useful
idea right now, right here. I may have some things planned for this weekend, like yesterday
and later this morning (soccer match on tv with my Dad)
....but I think the reality IS that when I am alone on the weekends -
I do need to make plans but it's ok that I don't and I AM starting to see that I can do either and not
freak out - and so when I don't have total
plans - I run out of things to do - I won't let it make me feel powerless - it's just the nature
of my choice - I can deal - and then I start to look for other things I can do...
I am inspired of what to add to the 'to do' list... which I have....
but the nature of it - is neither good nor bad.. it just IS. I can spend the weekend alone
but it does set up challenges and boredom - My therapist talked about how she has
an early morning conference call EVERY MONDAY morning - She said "Her Monday's
are always a SHARP START!" and I appreciate that -
Her advice really is sinking in and making sense. Expectation for the nature of the thing
can help me make sense of my day.
So, that's where I'm at today... I'll leave for the family's house at 1045a -
And I'll plan to do those new additions to the 'to do' list in the coming week.
Grateful and writing these posts really is another one of my 'go to' things when
I've run out of things to do. But it's good - the expression is a savior!

Glad volunteering felt so rewarding. That’s awesome.
I agree it’s nice to express with others here. Fills the day and helps reassure those isolating thoughts, remembering no one is alone.
Hope you will have had a lovely visit with fam today.
Thanks Nikki!!!
And now that I am home from spending time it’s time to shift gears
So glad the volunteering is rewarding and that you signed up again for next Saturday. They say volunteering helps our mental health and it seems to be uplifting for you.
I think you do good in your life by having routines. You get up, get dressed and ready for the day. You make your bed and do your chores. Doing all those things are not always easy for me. Sometimes I leave my pjs on all day, but lately I've been making myself dress even if I don't have anything to do that day.
It's good you have your family to spend time with. That's who I spend most of my time with too. I don't know what I'd do without my family. I think you sound like you feel the same way.
Have a great week Mark.
Thanks Becky!!! Have a good week ahead!
