Sending An Update To Nick

Dear Fred:  It helped a lot last time I wrote a journal entry simply to do it as a letter to Nick.  I think I will do that again this time as well.

Dear Nick:
It's been a while since I wrote to you.  I have no idea if you ever "receive" these letters or thoughts but in some way it seems to ease my mind and soul.  Sounds strange but it is true.  With that said, here is an update on events here at home.
The strawberries I planted this year are now doing great.  Next summer (if they survive the winter) there should be enough berried to share.  I have been able to get enough berries this year to have a few with cereal in the morning a couple of times.  Boy do they ever taste good.  I wish you were here to eat some with me.
I am getting the deck stained.  It was really dry as it has been a long time since we did anything with it.  It is almost finished.  I kept it close to the color  we had.  It is looking pretty good and should be protected from the bad weather that is around the corner.
Tom & I took your car to a mechanic the other day.  He thought the whine we were hearing was a transmission problem.  However, DuriBuilt Transmissions think it is an engine problem.  Just like doctors... no one seems to know much of anything for sure.  Anyway, Steve Galbraith is interested in the car.  Tom is going to let him know it is now for sale.  If he wants he can come take the car for a day or so, drive it & see what he thinks.  I just want to find Wagner a good home.  He was a wonderful car for you and we had so much fun going places with him.
Tonight the Watkins, Brinkerhoffs, Chermaks and me got together for a little social.  It was fun but I certainly do miss you when I meet with our friends.  I just feel empty inside without you there.  It is funny but your death has made a real bonding among these three couples we knew.  We knew all three of them but they did not really know each other.  Now it seems we are just a little group that hang on to each other.  John & Tom really get along well.  John misses you so much. I am glad he & Tom are becoming friends.
Yesterday I found a great storage box for all of your Cambridge certificates and the foreign currency you have.  The box looks like a large leather bound book.  The binding of the book reads, "London" and the front cover has a picture of Tower Bridge.  It brought back lots of memories of when you took me to the Tower of London.  That was such great experience.
Thank you for all of the wonderful adventures we had together.  I think in the time we had together we went more places, hiked more trails and saw more wonderful things than most people get to in a full long life time.  Even though you were allowed only 55 years on Earth you lived life to the fullest and you helped me to do the same.
Once I get things around the home caught up and the final touches done on my Will I plan to get busy doing some good volunteer work.  I hope to make you proud of me by surviving the pain and emptiness your death has created and filling that huge hole with worthwhile things that may help others.
Good night for now,Nick.  Where ever you may be...... I love you.
