self validation as I go
Something I saw my 88 year old Aunt do as she was doing her chores I was reminded of today.
I realize I have done just a little bit of, but now I see the value of it
as a motivational and focusing tool. It's to 'self validate' as you do your work
around the house and errands. My therapist talked about it as a psychology
tool she has used before as well.
I might be dismayed or daunted by what I have to do for the day - but if I take it
one step at a time 'now I am going to do my filing' and
'I'll do this and that..' and get that done - it will promote
a momentum for myself and an overall productivity and effectiveness and a good mood that I need in my day
and life.

i never thunk on it before, but now that ya got me thunking. . .
methunks i've been using "self-validation" and "positive affirmations" interchangeably. at the very least, they accomplish similar goal in my toolbox.
then we get to the bennies of staying task-oriented; of focusing on the task at hand rather than worrying the big picture. i rewatched "the last samauri" not too long ago. as i read your post, one scene, in particular, "too many mind." got me thinking on how easily we can get lost in the big picture. focus, focus, focus. . .

It’s funny, I seem to have no problems at all getting work accomplished on jobs. But when it comes to home, I lose focus and want to be lazy and veg. Not always, but this weekend…yes.
thanks arfie and nikki!
Nikki, I know we both give 110% to our jobs - but self care to me I am seeing is just as important.
That lazy and veg thing was kind of poking it's head in my direction and I just am trying not to get lost
in those feelings too much - in the sense that they might dictate what I do with myself.
I can see them but then use the motivation tool to keep doing my self care. I can have a storm around me but that
doesn't mean I have to feel bad about myself or stop taking care of my person, body and mind.
Whether it's good health or vanities - to me it's valuable stuff that indicates good mental health and self regard.
So, I am going to the gym soon. I am of the age now where it's critical to be physically active as a good habit
to maintain current levels of physical health and possibly still have potential to improve them a bit.
I also want to like looking at my body in the mirror. Right now, I'm the 'stay puff marshmallow man' :(
That's a great clip arfie!!
Mark, I just spent the afternoon/evening with family and we discussed, among many other things, family health issues. I know that I need to make some lifestyle changes and improve my diet. It’s not terrible but it could be better.
I get so fatigued after running on fumes by the end of the week, with really long work hours…..so I feel it’s perfectly healthy for me to have a plain old day of rest. It’s not laziness but self care……. and then the next day I can get the body moving again. I’m sure you are probably exaggerating with stay puff marshmallow man appearance, so keep a healthy frame of mind with appearance and image….. it can be easy to let that sort of comparison point start to hinder and create negative thoughts. I tell myself the same thing.
Anyway, herés to a good week ahead!!
Thanks Nikki!
FLYlady: Finally Loving Yourself Lady...(Man) has the philosophy of Home Blessings as one does the mundane tasks at hand. I kind of like that as it goes along with gratitude for the gifts of all that "home brings" for our Highest Good.
Thanks Mary Louise!
