science, religion and my take and yours
sorry this sounds like a sweeping treatise. I just discovered while working behind the
iconostasis today, conducting service, that while balancing my own discipline
with things I need to do and be careful of and get done, that this religion is a way of helping and understanding life,
while getting on with it.
It's a way to make sense of it - and give answers for things, when they go awry. To protect
from the forces that can make it go awry as well. Science,
specifically, psychology is a way to understand and manage life too and helps me get on with it - and it's a whole
bunch of things I like in truth ...and yet then there's my take on things ultimately at the end of the day.
A mix of thoughts, ideas and feelings. My own leanings for spirituality
and science and faith and humanity and community are there too. I realize now those things come into a kind
of dialogue when I meet with others and become close to them. It's important to not blindly go
submissive to another's standard that keeps you from healthy well exercised and satisfied existence.
That's something I am waking up to today regarding part of my life here at the monastery. I know I have to manage
it and I can and will. It's just a matter of waking up to the dynamics and keep true.

personally, i most like the esoteric disciplines --religion, science, etc-- as meditations. food for thought. nutrition for the spirit of mind. it can, indeed, help me in the sorting of life's confusions and healing of contusions. for sure, it helps me hold a more steady course through stormy sees.
but, more and more, i find that greater reliance on god is my more reliable tool for understanding life. which parts i need to fully understand become apparent when the need for the understanding arises. some days i even find that listening for god's quiet voice is more entertaining than listening to the constant chatter of my ever questioning monkey mind.
Thanks Arfie, I really extra extra appreciate your feedback on this. Thank you!
