Queen's Park that is, in Toronto (or Tron-uh, if you're from around here:)  Our stupid, conservative government has proposed a bill that will classify natural health products as a sub-class of drugs.  Actually, this is not a big deal, though I think they should be classed as a food rather than as a drug...but the problem is, that under the new bill, Health Canada could search my property without a warrant, seize my bank accounts and properties, and hold me responsible for storage and court fees, AND charge me up to $5 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!   All this for telling someone they should take coltsfoot for a cough?  Recommended elder flower tea for a sick child?  Suggesting that they should try 5 HTP instead of serotonin re-uptake inhibitors? They'd like to make vitamin C available by prescription only...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyhoo, I'm very tired after marching around the city today.  Some (likely U of T) medical students I assume were out protesting our protest, with signs that said "Pass C-51".  Mother Fuckers, I don't go to their dissection labs and tell them they should have more respect for the dead and that perhaps they could learn more from observing living organisms!! I went to the rally to gain more insight into what was being done, and for that I am glad I went.  But protesting just does not seem very effective to me.  Therefore, I am composing a seminar on the topic that I will present at the cafe, local library, and whoever else will have me.  I think I can even manage to have some guest speakers, and OF COURSE I will invite my local member of parliament to attend.  Fat lot of good that'll do me, of course the asshole is a conservative!!  What pisses me off even more, is the odds right now look to be in favour of it passing, since the Liberal opposition are a bunch of weak-minded ninnies -  who allowed Bill C 50 to pass because it would be a non-confidence vote that would force an election, and they didn't want to do that because they knew they don't stand to win an election right now!!!  Bill C-50 was a budget-related matter, and then those gestapo-conservatives added a couple of items that give them the right to restrict who gets into the country...umm...ya guys, Canada was one of the countries who wouldn't let the jews in when they were seeking asylum in WW2.   And lest we forget what we did to the Japanese Canadians, and before that, the very Natives we stole this country from.   Ironically, the conservative government just issued an apology for the treatment of the Native Canadians...sigh.  If this passes, I may be looking for a new country to live in!  Who am I kidding - I know what the future holds, and in the next few years most of those jerks will die off anyway...in the mean time, taking away as many of my constitutional rights in favour of the rights of the bloody corporations!!  We were so close to making real headway on issues like Kyoto, and then SOMEBODY elected His Majesty Mother Fuckin' Stephen Harper...the Canadian GWB.  Lord knows, I am not, nor will I ever be a conservative!  It's these losers Joni Mitchell was talking about when she sang: 'pave paradise, and put up a parking lot...' GRRRRR!!!!!    So many sit back and watch what they are doing, so few actually speak up about it.  Bill C 51, as far as I am concerned, is my government's attempt to legalize a Canadian version of ye olde Spanish inquisition and burn the New Heretic Witches, i.e. the herbalists, acupuncturists, chiropractors, nutritionists, homeopaths, and health food store operators.  The only people who will be targeted here will be the small businesses, since most large corporations will willingly comply in order to maintain their market presence.  For Pete's sake, under this proposed legislation, a mother could be incarcerated for giving her children herbal tea!  It's not a matter of whether or not they will do it, it's a matter of the FACT that they want to be able to say what is good for MY health.  I have not received any true healing from a doctor.  If I get hit by a bus, please, for the love of Buddha, take me to a hospital.  But if I have a cold, skin problems, cholesterol issues, CANCER....I will gladly explore my other, natural options first. This rant brought to you by a cup of coffee - which is a strong medicinal herb and should not be used on a daily basis - just don't tell Health Canada, cuz I bet they're all a bunch of addicted sons o' bitches!!! Dear Lord, save me from my government!!!
