Rough Day

Today we put Kiva down. He is the one on the left. He was such a great friend. Always by my side and so gentle. I will miss him a lot. Kaylee our little female has been curled up since his death. After his death we brought her over so she would have closure and not look for him. I had to force her to go outside. I really hope that she will be ok without him. They were raised together and six months apart.  I have never seen my husband cry before today, he was so broken up over Kiva's death. We knew it was coming, but it's hard to prepare. As for me, I feel the sadness but can not express how I feel, other than to write out my emotions. I felt like self-harming to feel the pain, but I have been able to resist so far. I just came home and did housework to distract myself.

I contacted Kaylee's breeder last week so that I could get my name on the list for a puppy next year because Keeshond puppies can be difficult to get. This breeder is all the way on the opposite side of the US from me, but she knows me and assured me she would give me a puppy because she knows that I have had them my whole life and I know how to care for them. We do have a few local breeders, but one major breeder lost her kennels in a recent fire, The other breeder has nice dogs but I really like the look that Kaylee's breeder has bred into her dogs. I'm in no hurry for a puppy, but I know that Kaylee is old and will probably last another year or so, and I really need a companion during the day. Also a puppy might help her.

Now I can't sleep, so I am sitting here watching Kaylee sleeping. My husband went to bed hours ago. All this stress has caused my knee to really ache. It's still really stiff from the surgery. It's 2 AM, I think that I will take something for pain and see if that helps me go to sleep. Normally my dogs sleep in the living room, but I think I will leave the bedroom door open so Kaylee can come in if she gets scared. Thanks for letting me get my emotions out.

A puppy sounds like a great idea. Do you have yo have the same breed? I always adopt a poor baby that needs a home from a shelter
I hope you were able to get some aleep last night and have a better day today

Secouya,
I'm so sorry for you and your husbands loss. I remember when we lost our first Rottweiler my husband cried. I never saw him really cry before. I too broke down. Then six months later we lost another of our Rottweilers. It was devasting to me. They were both six months apart. And they died six months apart. I spent a lot of time with them both when they were sick. And when my female was by herself I always made sure she wasn't lonely without the first one dieing. That's great to get a new puppy. Then the two will keep each other company. We have always got our dogs locally. So it worked out. Same breeder and then we breed our male and kept a puppy out of him. She lived a few years longer then the other two. It was so tough and I was so upset when they all three were gone. Try to get some rest. And I hope your knee feels better. Spend time with Kaylee so she doesn't get lonely. And before you know it your new puppy will be here. Their my favorite when their puppies. So cute. You take care. Hugs and blessings to you and your husband through this difficult time. Italianmomma4ever

I'm so sorry about your baby. Your journal has made me cry. There's nothing worse than the pain you're going through right now. I went through it 6 years ago and I still cry. I'm really sorry.

Oh, boy, Secouya. After he had two strokes, the veterinarian and I put my Mempo down in 2004 and I'm still not over it. It's the hardest thing to do. So sorry for your loss, truly.

Thank you all for your support. Forgetting, I made Kiva dinner tonight. I guess it will take some time. I still have Secouya and Keesh in my heart. My two prior Keeshonds. They really are little angels.

Jean, I will get another Keeshond puppy. I have had other mixed breeds growing up, but I love this breed. They are so empathetic and little clowns. They do leave a lot of fuzz balls behind so frequent vacuuming and grooming is a must, but really shedding is only bad once a year when they blow their coat and grow in new fur. There is nothing cuter than a Keeshond puppy. I’ll post a picture when I get the new puppy next year. They are a little stubborn so you really have to work with them.

Italianmomma, I know you used to show. We showed Kaylee. My neighbor had Rottweiler puppies, they were so cute. I used to play with them until he moved away. Thank you for the well wishes, hopefully I will get more sleep tonight since our power keeps going out.

Muji, what breed was Mempo?

Just talking about Kiva has really helped. He was such a little clown and I will never forget his smile, which is what Keeshonds are known for. They call them the “Smiling Dutchman”.
