Rotten month (warning, long)
What a week I had! As if this month wasn't enough with snowstorms, a 20 hr power outage, a couple other shorter outages, heavy rain and strong winds and all that causing long bouts of pain and extreme fatigue. I'm also worrying about a few odd symptoms I've been having lately.
Monday was an ordinary day. We were just watching a movie in the afternoon when I saw a tow truck stop in front of our house and back up to my car. I ran outside and he says he got orders from the RCMP to tow it. We'd been parking on the roadside as our driveway is a hill and we can't get out if we drive down to the house. The way the cop told it the truck driver thought the car had been abandoned there for ten days. I explained the situation but he said I still had to move the car (no problem, I understand) and I had to pay him for the tow even though he didn't have to tow it. $80!! Luckily I had it but I couldn't afford it! I hadn't cried in some time but I was in tears the rest of the day. He gave me the cops name and number and said I had to call him but that was useless as he just told me the same things again. He suggested I park in the rink parking lot which is at the opposite end of the rink from where I live and on the other side of the road. That doesn't seem far but it's a very long walk for me and we can't see the car from the house. I don't like it but have no choice as I can't afford to build up the driveway. I don't know what to do.
All that was minor once Tuesday came. We had to go pick up my grandson from his father for Christmas. Normally a 3.5 hr drive each way. Except there was a major snowstorm happening. I texted with my daughter all morning hoping we could change the plans but it just wasn't working out. In the end we had to go regardless of the weather. It was treacherous with snow covered roads, drifts, black ice, slush in places and strong winds. I was not a good passenger and let out many gasps and a few small screams when the car would suddenly slide. I was a nervous wreck! Luckily bf had nerves of steel and knows how to handle a car. Only an hour into the trip we had to make a small detour due to a transfer truck that slid off the road. After only 2 hours I had a cold sore blister pop out I was so stressed.
A trip that should have taken 7 hours plus a couple short breaks took us 13 hours. If only we could have afforded a hotel for the night we could have stopped when we got to my grandson (8hrs in) On the way back the roads were better most of the way so we made better time and managed to talk and laugh with my sweet, smart boy(he's 9). However when we were almost back to my daughters house (30 minutes away) we actually got stuck in a drift across the road. Bf tried for half an hour to get us out before he agreed to let me call roadside assistance. Before I finished the call a guy with a plow came along to help us. God bless him!
When we got to my daughter's it was 1am and we decided to just stay there for the night. My grandson was home with his mom and we would have had another hour and a half (in perfect weather) to get to our house. The stress was just too much and we were all exhausted. My daughter was in tears she was so relieved that we made it safely and so sorry that we had to go out in that weather. She had asked for the day off to go herself but couldn't get it, then when we were already on the road her work was cancelled due to the storm. I'm glad my grandson is home for Christmas but I never want to do that again!
We didn't sleep well of course, each on a couch, but we were glad to rest for a few hours. After a couple coffees and visiting with the kids in the morning we headed for home. Thankfully it was a beautiful sunny day. Closer to home the roads were bad though and we saw a couple cars in the ditch. Having to walk from the parking lot at the end of the trip was no fun either and their was snow almost to my knees from the roadside right up to the house! I was never so glad to get home!
Ideally we both would have been able to rest for a few days but it's almost Christmas. We had shopping to do so had to go out Thursday again and I still had a few gifts to make (done now) and baking to do which will take me all weekend leaving Monday to wrap gifts and package baked goods for the kids.
Sitting down to eat Christmas dinner with all my family will be such a happy blessing after the month I've had!

OMG how stressful!! I am so glad your ok. We made a trip from WA state to TN once in a snow storm and the roads were covered with snow. By the time we got to TN I was in tremendous pain from the stress, so I understand. Again, just glad you made it without incident.
