risk averse/risk tolerance

I woke up this morning feeling great. Showered, dressed

and went to Starbucks. Chatted with a barista and then came home.

Texted back and forth with friends. Texts can be so intimate and yet

when they're not so kind they can sting!

I had that experience this morning and my whole personality seemed to change.

That's how it is for me - and probably others - but my sense of self is labile.

I found myself obsessing about it - like holding onto the pain while trying to let

go and find myself again - the overwhelming sense of definition

...and slowly I knew I had to make the day for myself...

and I thought about the idea of "RISK" - I am a pretty conservative person when it comes

to risk. I save as much money as I can, I keep a quiet, organized and orderly home.

I have a very basic job - though I feel like I could do more - and probably will in the future -

I am learning now just how 'risk averse' I've been as well as recognizing the 'risk tolerance' in

us all as a concept. Things are good.

I hope all's well with you guys!

peace,

Mark

I'm a natural born risk-taker AND a great lover of the basics such as a neat, orderly and simple life. You're gonna have to keep selling if you want to convince me the two are incompatible.

Aversion to risk was mainstream logic long before the turn of the 21st century. Here in Coronaville, "Stay Safe" is a standardized cliché. required by law. Of course you are risk averse. You are a child of your culture.

Take a risk. Share a smile.

Risks are funny. I feel like I don’t take risks on certain aspects but then on other areas I’m a wild risk taker, dangerously so, hence my diagnosis of manic depressive. I did stuff like that when I was little too. There are all kinds of stories when I was a kid where I’d just run off by myself and the grownups would have to look for me. My mom always tells me about when i disappeared at the mall when i was a kid and she found me sitting on the counter at the toy store with the manager. I guess I felt like someone was always watching over me and had no fear.

But now I’m very reserved. Fear I suppose. Fear of rejection? Being the butt of a joke? Being told I’m crazy? Being bullied? Maybe all of the above.

Why do you think it is you don’t take risks?

Here's the conundrum - which is it? For me, taking risks in certain areas does not happen. I have that little inner voice suggesting the idea is beyond normal catastrophe boundaries. Other times, it's like 'let's have an adventure'.

Emails, text messages, if I feel hurt, or misunderstood, I take a step back and consider the origin of the conversation. Often, it leads me to a different meaning of the words, which helps when I finally do respond.

Here's to finding the working balance!
