retro sugar helps

i turn on the radio --- makes me feel retro......yes it do.  retro, reminds me of days as a teen making dinner listening to KWWL, the local station in Small Town, Iowa.  They would sing out the call sign of the station and after hearing it thousands of times it felt comfortable, familiar, right.........and it made it easier to peel taters or fry up some chicken.  Miss the music, but not the hog market report so much.......forgive me farmers everywhere.
so a little retro time with the radio helped me create a burst of sugar this morning.  i've been ignoring the cluttered frig for a looooooooong time.  but like that song in Mary Poppins.....a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.......i turned the radio sugar up and started pulling stuff out of the frig.  it didn't take long, even with breaks.......i didn't do the big clean.  pull it all out and wash it down, but i did a lovely and reasonable facsimile.  serves me just fine.  did find a couple of science experiments, being a one person occupant in a bulk purchase world that can happen.  good-bye nanner' pudding......ate about half.  good-bye peeled garlic cloves in a jar.  good-bye glucky brand of string cheese.  some bargains are not bargains.  lol.
bruce, the lawn man called last Sunday.  said he would be by one day this week to mow.  great.  but no, he hasn't so far.  last night he left a msg, i was sleeping again......he said did i need him to mow?  uh duh yes.......please, soon.  dandelions are now knee high.......pretty, but knee high........whoops.  He seems discombobulated. i listened to the msg again, he said he was coming last night, he called sometime after 7........he is a funny duck.  shame on me but i thought has he discovered happy hour?  i know that is naughty, but i need more sins to bring to the Lord.  bruce is a good guy, just avoiding the heat like any smart person would.......lol!
the meteorologist says we have a chance of storms and showers today, tomorrow and monday.......so do i dare hope to dream that i don't have to drag the hose around for 3 days?  the backyard curly hose i got in may sprung a HUGE LEAK.  seriously defective.  it's a huge hole, i went out one day to water and it burst open and i had a nice shower, it's so hot  that i really don't mind getting wet.  keep looking at my sticky note to FIND THE RECEIPT from HOME DEPOT so I can trade it in.  I have 2 baskets on the table, gotta be in one or the other, sometimes my scatter brained laziness just makes me LAUGH OUT LOUD.  Nike says JUST DO IT.........ok.  maybe later.......I am pro on crastination.
so the popsicle curlers might be a crazy fad, but it's fun......oh go on, try it....sit in your backyard with a head full of orange, cherry and grape popsicles in a wading pool with a sprinkler flinging water droplets and reclaim your childhood...........get crazy.
maybe i can get someone to cover my patio with white sand...........like say 5 or 6 inches.................random things to do with my money in my old age other than leave it to my children or say........carefully live on............thinking a big pile of sand sounds pretty good.  would that be expensive?
i watched a documentary last night about a dad, mom, sister, brother who are all involved in the lifetime pursuit of the creation of art.  they lived an alternative lifestyle to my much more conventional one........what grabbed me is the art.  the beauty, the colors, the textures, shapes.........ceramics, paintings, photography.....many creations were every day functional and designed to add beauty to even the most mundane of tasks...........sorry i'm getting carried away.  i have such a hankering now to go and get some paints....acrylic maybe?  never have done this.  just played with watercolors a bit last year.......so acrylic paint and some canvases and one of those stands of course......what would a starter kit set a body back?  i don't know zip about materials, what is needed for a novice.  not a summer of painting at the sorbonne, but a bit of painting on a white sand patio under a lovely red umbrella in the north georgia woods.  what did i watch or hear........someone said, "Never lose the ability to see what isn't there".....aka imagination.  That is what i would like to paint........what isn't there.....mixed with my own experiences ........ my common sense nudges me to buy a roll of butcher paper and finger paints and go wild.............................get the itch out.  If i cover my frig with my own finger painting will the kids put me away????????  or will they pat me on the head or ?????
what are you up to this week-end?  i need to go get some fresh veggies at some point, but mostly i'm liking this cool happy breeze in my mind.....................do do do do do feeling groovy...............later.

Your little painting project sounds like fun. Go for it!

I\'ll stick to the trip down \"memory lane\" - so you listened to KWWL - means you grew up on the west side of the big \"muddy\" as all radio stations west of it start with a K (same of TV) & all east start with W (other way would have made more sense) with one exception - the 1st one - KDKA in Pittsburgh.

As for me I grew up listening to WIST - WAYS - WLON & WNNC mostly. In college it was all WTOB. That was in Winston-Salem the home of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company so the call letters stood for tobacco. Most station call letters do have a meaning - fun to learn about them.

Hot here but was just watching The Weather Channel & it looks like the Mid West & Mid Atlantic may be in for some more storms today. Rain but no storms please but we may be in line for some storms on Monday.

Stay cool.

Sorry I have missed your journals! I\'ve been \"away\" this week handling guests and my Fil\'s funeral.

I had to laugh about your facsimile of fridge cleaning. That IS my big clean. I *never* do the real big clean that June Cleaver would do. I just clean the front part of the shelves with a wet paper towel. It suits me just fine too. lol.

I like disco for my cleaning chores. It does make chores easier to boogie to the bee gees while dusting.

I like painting once in a while too. I tend to get frustrated because it doesn\'t turn out like what is in my head, and I, of all people, should know it takes practice and time and I should be doing it just for fun and the art of just doing it. Maybe your words will inspire me. : ) Or maybe . I\'ll just sit here like a big lump till the desire goes away haha.

Hey Ruthie....Blessed Sunday mornin to ya!!

I\'m with you on the retro music stuff. I\'m a real music buff. Growing up as a preacher\'s kid, we weren\'t allowed to listen to \"rock and roll\" type of music, so my listening \"life\" was mostly of that Southern Gospel I\'m sure you are familiar with. I still love it....oh yessssssssss! BUT, I love The Doobie Brothers, too! Once I moved out of the home abode, I kinda broke free on the listening experience. Also my parents released me from that \"you have to be a good example, your dad\'s the head hauncho around the church\" thingy and I really kind of sprang loose for a while. Anyway, I mellowed quickly, but found music to be my favorite thing in the world! You should see my Vinyl collection. I\'m 62 and still making up time with music.

It does spur one on, doesn\'t it?? And makes the idea of the popsickle sticks and the sand sound super duper!!

Sorry about your back yard hose! I have a drawer to keep my receipts in. I\'m usually able to find them. I\'m anal about having a place for everything. My brain won\'t know where to look if something is misplaced. I tend to store things in my freezer (not good). I\'ve found the Sunday paper in there, as well as a box of noodles that disappeared from my pantry. Must be a ghost. LOL...duh. I do look in the freezer if my receipts are not in their assigned drawer.

Hope your dandelions don\'t get any bigger, waitin on Bruce. Our backyard is a mess. We have very little rain, and tremendous heat....the dandelions seem to love it. My brother is your Bruce. He never seems to realize how much time goes by between mowing visits either. Little reminders are necessary for him!

I do hope you get to feel a nice, fresh, crisp, cool breeze when you go veggie hunting! OH, and good on you with the fridge!! I\'m sure reasonable clean is totally acceptable. Score one on your \"YAYYYYYYYYY it\'s done\" chart!! xoxox
