Results from Fetal Testing

My "band-aid" weekend turned out to be nice, even though I spent 90% of it sad and thinking of my miscarriage and my baby. We met some cool people and hung out with them, and that managed to distract me for a little while. Still, it was nice to get away and a change of scenery. Today I received a phone call from my RE who gave me the results of the fetal testing from the D&C. Turns out it was a genetic abnormality: Trisomy 15. Apparantly this is very common with women who are advanced maternal age, and the fetus usually stops developing around week 6 or 7. RE said there's a 30% chance this or another trisomy abnormality would happen again if I were to get pregnant with my own eggs. He said if we did decide to do IVF again, he would recommend PGD testing or donor eggs. This made me intensely sad to hear, even though none of that comes as a surprise. I am 44 years old and need to face facts here even though its soooo damn painful. I feel so sad thinking my poor little baby was abnormal and never had a chance to develop. I think of how he/she fought so hard but was never meant to be and it rips my heart open. For now, I need to allow myself time to grieve this huge loss and when I am ready, we will figure out our next steps. We do not have the money for anymore IVF, let alone PGD testing or donor eggs, and same with adoption, but I struggle so much with the idea that I will never have anyone call me Mommy. I'm just not sure where to go from here. But again, right now I'm in mourning and just so very sad and so very empty and I need to move past this pain. It sorta feels like the pain will never go away. Where there once was a baby, joy and hope has now been replaced with pain, sadness and emptiness and it feels awful.
I'm so grateful for you all and I know so many of you understand this all too well. I wish us all peace on our journeys, wherever they may lead. Lots of love to all xoxoxo

I\'m so sorry to hear. I think everything you are feeling is normal. I am glad that you do have answers now but I can imagine it doesn\'t make it any easier. Big hugs!

I\'m so sorry about your loss and I\'m so sad to hear about why. You need to take all the time you need to grieve this before even thinking about trying again. I think at this point, step by step is best. Don\'t give up, the lady that referred my doc to me was 46 I think and kept trying, she ended up having 2 babies (seperately) with IVF. She said she tried for many years but just wouldn\'t give up. Whether its from your womb or an adoption, I really hope that you get to hear the word \"mommy\" someday. XOXO

I\'m so sad for you. I cannot pretend to understand what you are going through but I know how badly you want a child and to have this happen is awful. I\'m praying for you and I know that when the time is right you will find some renewed hope and will come up with a plan. Thinking of you. xoxo

So sorry for your loss and the news. We didn\'t have any testing because they knew what caused the problems: me, tubal pregnancy. It\'s the same kind of emotions I would bet - this feeling of \'what if\' and \'if only I hadn\'t caused this\' my therapist got me to turn around those feelings and start saying \'my body is not me.\' which is weird, but true. sure my body doesn\'t function the way I want it to, but I\'m so much more than my organs that caused the problems. you are an amazing person and you are so much more than your ovaries. Hugs, I\'m here for you.

So sorry for the news - but glad you had an ok weekend. Another option you can consider is Embryo Adoption - I think it is way cheaper and you would get to carry the adopted baby.

That said, you do need to grieve first before figuring anything out. It takes some time so take the time you need. You will know when you are ready to figure out your options and move forward. Big Hugs!

I\'m so sorry you got what seems to be another slap in the face, but it\'s still an answer. Atleast you know that it didn\'t happen for no reason, or wonder if there was something you could\'ve done. I\'ve rooted for you the whole way, and I won\'t stop now. I\'m rooting for you during your grieving process, and i\'ll root for you in whatever decision you decide to make down the road. Try and take care of yourself. Thinking of you! xoxox
