Respecting myself...

I just read a quote from a member here that hit the nail on the head with me; "Am I respecting myself by staying?"...WOW!  I just realized what I've been struggling over...that comment within me, my heart and my soul.
I've only been married once, and told myself that I would only be married once because I would find the right person the first time.  I would take my time and really search for the one true love of my life.  I found her.  And now it's really messed up.
I was engaged once before my wife.  I was young and naive.  We almost got married.  But I had that gut feeling that we weren't connecting like two people getting married should, and found out why.  She was seeing someone else as well as being engaged to me.  Now for some reason, that was pretty easy to break off.  Sad; yes, but something snapped inside me and I knew it was over right then and there.
So why isn't this so easy?  Why do I still feel for my W after what she's done with my heart? Am I respecting myself?  I know I left the engagement with a ton of self-respect and pride, knowing I'd made the right decision.  And I know there's kids involved.  And 16 years of marriage in the mix.  Family and friends...I can go on.  What about me?  Am I happy?
Thanks everyone, that felt good to write all this down.
