Remembering 9/11
It's been 13 years ago. Gee, it's hard to believe. I've seen several things today that brought me near tears. In the past thirteen years I have two grandchildren grown to teens, one in his 20s, and two new grandchildren. I also acquired two new nephews at two beautiful weddings and three greats from them. People in my life have been born and people have died. Still, it seems like yesterday when 2001 ended my role as wife to a very beautiful person.
Today, I watched a young couple sitting on one side of a table for four. They were very close and looked into each others eyes like they really cared what the other was saying. I said to my daughter, "That's what I miss.." While I was the most important person in my husbands life, I felt really valued. He was never bored with my rambling and valued my opinion. He trusted me with all he had and indeed, in the end with his very life. They don't make them like that anymore.
At his memorial service, my preacher read comments from family members and friends. People spoke about him in such warm glowing terms. My preacher said, "While I didn't know him very well, I think I missed out on knowing a wonderful man."
He did.
