Rejection...

I was making a few extra bucks walking a little boy to school. Over time, his mom didn't like the fact that her son raved about me.  I used to play games with him while we were walking, sing songs, we had fun.  This morning his mom left before I get there, I see her car screetching down the block.  Kid lets me in and tells me his mom hates me.  I knew she had issues (jealousy) but I wasn't expecting this at all.  She left me payment for the week on the table.  He also tells me his mom fights a lot with her husband.  I was very hurt, I was good to this kid and we had fun.

Next thing that happened this week is that I emailed a place that needed volunteers, and I got an email back stating they will call me the very next day.  No phone call came.  I emailed again stating I never got a call.  NO response.

This is my life.  Constant rejection.  I ask her WHY this always happens to me, I am hurt from all this rejection in everything I try to do.  She just told me, unfortunatley, that's how people are and not to take it personally.  Counselor also told me that woman who I was walking her son to school that she needed me more than I needed her.  She's probably right, but it happens to me so much!!  I try to be nice to everyone, and I constantly get hurt.  No wonder I am a loner.  I have such a hard time dealing with all this rejection, yet I'm tired of being so lonely.

Look at it another way. The boy likes being with you. You have made a difference in his life. The mother can"t do what you are doing, so b/c her lack of understanding/maturity she lashes out.

I hope you are still walking him to school.

When I use to leave my daughter at daycare she did not want to come home. Really hurt. But I understood. She had made friends with everyone.

Don"t ever think you are the bad one. As for the volunteer position, give it some times. Hugs! Brooke

I have found that women especially, get jealous over everything. Men tend to be jealous of intelligence and money success, but women are jealous if you are better at anything than them. You are better at interacting with her child, so she hates herself, which is stupid, because of course you are better with kids, you are an old woman (no offense) and have had kids.
Some people think if they have a kid, the kid is their property, and no one is allowed to teach them or affect them but the parent. Which is also ridiculous. If someone is that paranoid about their child being influenced by different people then they shouldn't have a child.
I've had this happen to me many times when providing childcare, dating single dad's, or even just interacting with strange kids out at an event somewhere. People with kids always seem to be angry, touchy, and possessive.
That woman is prob just jealous because 1. You are more in touch with your inner child, 2. She doesn't get to walk him to school because she has to work 3. She has to work because her husband doesn't have the kind of job where she can be a stay at home mom. None of that is your fault. So don't be upset about it. Be glad you can be a positive influence on this child's life.

I know this hurts but your counsellor is right, don’t take it personally. It’s their bad behaviour. It sounds like the mother has issues, she probably doesn’t like that you and her son have a bond. It’s her shortcoming. Who knows perhaps she regrets not being able to walk him to school herself. Also, bear in mind it’s the kid telling you she hates you. Her behaviour is ungrateful and standoffish, but perhaps he’s exaggerating what she actually said.
You’re an honourable lady, you volunteer because you want to make a difference, help people. If the volunteer company are taking their time, don’t see it as a rejection. They’re probably treating all the volunteers the same way.
I think as lonely people, prone to depression we have thinner skins. I’m learning to harden my shell and not give a damn about people that ignore me or show me disrespect. I get hurt too feeling rejected and not valued when perhaps another person would barely notice. We’re sensitive souls. But no doubts Maria you’re a good lady. Those people are lucky to have you.

It's her loss, I feel sorry for the kid, obviously he enjoyed his time with you but she was jealous, try not to take it personally....as for the volunteer thing, that's their loss too, give it some time and you might just get that call.
In the meantime take those walks your counselor suggested and spend some time at the library reading or look into volunteering elsewhere. there has to be something you can do , just keep looking but try to enjoy your days as best you can....hugs
