Ready to walk again

So, it probably seems premature, but I've been on crutches for two weeks and two days. I'm ready to walk again. It was a blessing in disguise breaking my ankle. It has slowed me down, made me still, made me take care of me & made me rely on others for help. Before breaking my ankle, identifying my feelings and needs were difficult. I ran all the time. I sought replacement. Grief was a brutal monster that I could only spend a short amount of my day indulging. Since the accident, I have done so much work, so much self evaluation and so much healing. I never would have slowed down to get to this place I am right now. Self help books, crying, journaling are all next to my bed and couch and have been invaluable resources to getting me comfortable with my heart. I don't ask why or when anymore. I just ask, what next? I realize my limitations, my blessings and my potential. I also realize there is a future for me. My daughter and I have become extremely close and I realize how much she needs me, even though she is strong and swears she doesn't.
I can not do it all and I don't want to. My purpose is not to take care of the world or everyone around me. My purpose is to have a relationship with those around me. Give and take. Support and be supported. And let things go that are not important. There will come a time when a broken ankle will not be important, heck, I will probably forget all about it. But, right now, I'm grateful for what it has offered me, a chance to be still, reflect, support from my family and friends and I am ready to walk again.

Next time, have a cup of tea, and reflect. So glad your ankle recovery is going smoothly. J.
