Rambling Thoughts

Going to bed (too late, as usual), I am finding myself feeling back in my element a bit. It was back to class Tuesday.  My dad decided it was a great time to finish the inside remodeling since it's 101 degrees outside.  So, class this morning, tile hunting with him this afternoon, old carpet removal, mopping and preparing for him to start tiling in the morning, writing an outline for a speech due tomorrow, reading literature, and yep, that's more like it!!  And oh yeah, I know I still have work to be done on this area of my life and finding a better balance between my on and off switch, but I will continue with that as I go - I promise :)
I did finally have a chance to talk with my cousin this evening, as well.  She was very honest and forthcoming that at the time she had no idea what the situation was with the fireworks and had meant to save some for their house.  She was very honest that she is not as safety conscious and usually lets the kids free-for-all with their bag of goodies.  She did say that the kids were reprimanded for their attitude, disrespect and lack of appreciation with the facebook post.  I was equally as honest with my concern with the safety issues, lack of respect and appreciation and that I was not willing to put up with such behavior in the future.
She did have some excuses...they were in a hurry, which resulted in her daughter not taking her medication as scheduled and them not adequately checking and separating the fireworks beforehand.  Which is okay as far as that goes, but I guess the new me doesn't take any excuse as justification because I definitely pointed out that I would prefer they be a little late and insist they were more under control if they are entering my home from now on or choose a different venue!!  Due to her honest communication, I will give this a little room for evolution and see how it goes for now.
I think this is a very good point on the post on boundaries and that value differences can be very different and there is a choice and a line in how far you are willing to compromise either way.  In this case, I will never compromise safety and I am uncomfortable with my children following the rules of my property while others blantantly disregard them.  So, now I have established this with my cousin and if she or her children are crossing this boundary, I will ask that they leave.
I do, internally, have the feeling that my cousin was thinking I'm a bit uptight.  This was a bit difficult for that part of me that wants to always be the pleaser, but I dealt with it okay.  I recognized it and worked through it.  The boundaries for me, my kids and our space are way more important to me than her opinion.  I am feeling pretty good about this and am more than happy that I am starting to see more progress in recognizing my feelings, my own values and importance and starting to change the patterns of the past.  I don't feel so bad about the failures and the work still to be done, as I can see that it is happening and that it really is a process and that is okay, as well.
