In the stillness of the hanging humidity of the night, hot words of anger being tossed between us, tempers flare and flash like a spark hitting the rising fumes of gasoline.
You reach out, trying to span a distance that has grown so desperately far away, speaking words of love. As tears burn down my cheeks, too much pain to bear, my only response is to prove it. You love me, prove it. Show me.
The days go by, whispering sweetly through to the falling leaves of autumn and still I wonder yet. Through the cold depression of the winter we wait, maintaining whatever status quo we have come to understand.
In the new born days of spring, as the okra sprouts and the lilies bloom, I wonder still. My heart and mind reaches and gropes for some certainty, one glimmer of hope to be found in the green of the grass, the bright yellow of the sun and the warm wind brushing across my skin.
What I find once again is the red and purple of a turbulent sky, the building of a storm yet to come. How many more seasons will pass in this state of ill repair? How many more unanswered questions can we bear?
