Progress Report after Four Years
Judy and I have been full time travelers now for 11 years. That is; On May 1, 2004 I retired from my career in the paper industry. We sold our home in Scappoose Oregon and started traveling full time the first of June, 2004. We have a 34 foot motor home, a Mercedes Sprinter van set up with my tools as a shop vehicle and our general around town access vehicle. Up until I was diagnosed with Parkinson's four years ago this shop was in a cargo trailer and we did our general around town commuting on a tandem bicycle. That ended after the diagnosis for the simple reason that we needed to travel long distances to doctors appointments.
At this time I am coping with the Parkinson's fairly well. I get the most frustration from getting lots of double strikes and unintended mouse clicks when working with smart phone or computer. I am using an interesting pill schedule. I use Sinamet (400 mg), Pramapexol (0.825 mg) and Azilect (1 mg). I split one of the Sinamet tablets and take one half tablet at bed time to help me through the night. The other half tablet I take when I expect to be doing projects requiring fine motor skills. I usually have to take something with caffeine to counteract the sleepies.
If I drive, I have to do that when I have the lower dose Carbadopa /Levadopa in my system and I am well rested. Judy has taken over much of the driving. We are volunteers in the Oregon Parks system in our summer season in the northwest. In the winter we head south and look for Bluegrass festivals.
