Pride Pill

For some reason I'm not quite sure of, from a younge age I've always looked at pride as a sin. Not that I'm very humble myself ironically.

But I realize this is a mistake! Pride is a powerful tool. Pride taps the very source of your personhood. Your self image and identity. AndĀ even though it's just an EGO, its still very much there and close to your very core. The things that we consider as "ourselves" or being a part of "ourselves" we hold very dear and nuture and protect and grow. So why let your ego run amock with you without your permission? Rather take charge of it and work with it.

I take pride in the fact that I can figure things out... eventually. I take pride in the fact that I'm a good person. I take pride in the fact that I CHOSE not to kill myself. I take pride in the fact that I'm no longer an alcoholic or drug addict. I take pride in the fact that I still love my parents and siblings inspite of betrayal and abandonment. I take pride in the fact that my love is not waxed cold. I take pride in the fact that I affirm that I still believe in God, somehow, and inspite of ridicule from athiests. I take pride in the fact that I haven't given up or resigned from life inspite of knowing how fragile this body is. I take pride in the fact, like a samurai warrior, that my life may be snuffed out at any moment and even violently, but my will to live remains and grows stronger. I take pride in the fact that although I'm scared of allot of things, I'm not afraid of being afraid. I take pride in the fact that I know the goal of life is love. I take pride in this journal entry. This is who I am, for now, and I have no problem with it.

Good, I am proud of my daughter, who has turned out to be a wonderful woman despite my illness. I am proud of the voluntary work I do.
And I am proud to have you as a friend.

I suppose being Catholic I was taught that Pride was a sin, along with almost everything else. But as I have got older I have learned to unlearn this things.

I was also Catholic growing up. It can be hard though to unlearn things that were instilled in your still growing brain. The only thing I'm thankful for from my former religion is the teaching of Jesus Christ. To me he was a great human being. The rest I've always felt was baggage and sometimes a downright hindrance to life, knowledge and prosperity.
