planning a party and crying for Ukraine
I arrived home on February 4. It took me awhile to adjust. I felt like a bit of a ditz when I had to go looking for kitchen utensils etc. I was only gone for 3 months!
I am settled in again and am now familiar with my kitchen! I enjoyed catching up with friends and neighbours. We also had a happy reunion with Andrew and Tiina. We had Christmas in February - complete with turkey dinner. Tiina said that we were celebrationg Christmas, New Years, Valentines etc.
I am gutted, watching the horror in Ukraine. I think I am super sensitive as we lived in Moscow for 6 months and visited Ukraine. I know that many Russians are as horrified as me about what is happening. I have been watching them being arrested and I know they will not be treated well in prison. It is scenes like those that remind me of how blessed we are. I have been brought to tears watching the slaughter.
If we think it can't happen here, we need to think again. I was watching a Rick Steeves documentary yesterday about the rise of Fascism in Europe. It was scary. I see similarities - Hitler and Mussollini repeated the same things over and over again - telling people how awful life was. They spoke in very simple language. They made complicated issues seem simple and only they would be able to fix it! Hitler fixed it alright... The dictators managed to convince the populace to vote for them. As soon as they got into power, they had no qualms about ignoring and/or changing the laws and using force.
Enough of that for now. My friend and I decided we need to do something to bring a little normality to life. I am not sure that Covid is done with us, but in the meantime, I think we need to take advantage of the lull. Joe is going to Ottawa next week so I decided we need a Hen Party! I sent out invitations this morning and so far the response has been positive!
I miss Lisa so much. I worry about Cevyn and the girls. I guess I am a typical mom and Granny. I want their lives to be happy and their futures to be bright. The upside is that they will be happy to have Poppa visiting for a week!

Welcome home! I'm sure after 3 months I'd be looking for things in my own kitchen too!! So wonderful that you were able to spend time and celebrate with Andrew and Tiina.....a complete turkey dinner sounds like a "Kala" dinner....I'm sure it was delicious and lots of fun.
Ukraine. OMG!!!!! My heart aches, and yes, tears have been shed here too. I pray for all....Ukrainians and Russians. I pray for peace. I pray for changed hearts and minds and belief's of those destroying and killing. When I saw those children with special needs being carried away on a tarp, my heart just couldn't take it any longer. GOD HELP UKRAINE! And as much as is wrong with America, I feel very blessed to live here. We may get "fake" news, biased news, and 1/2 truth news all mixed in real news, but at least we get the chance to try to figure things out on our own and make our own decisions. Of course we too are only one generation away from losing our own freedoms. We also love and watch a lot of Rick Steeves, he's a great tour guide and a really funny guy (which we just recently discovered during one of his lectures).
A "hen party" sound divine!!!!!! I'm sure it will be a huge success and everyone will have a blast!!! ENJOY!!!
LOVE and (((hugs)))
Enjoy your Hen party - sounds just the thing to brighten up the mood right now.
There's so much to say about Ukraine - it's just heartbreaking in every way. And you are right about it happening here - untruths abound, voting rights being curtailed. It's a mess, really. I wonder how Americans would fare if they faced a situation like the Ukrainians when a simple thing like wearing a mask is apparently too difficult.
But, as always, there is much to be grateful for so welcome home and party on!

Joanna......We Americans are SOOOOOOO spoiled!!!! It's shameful. I pray we get our act together before we find out what true suffering really is. God help us all!
Hugs and love…3 months…wow…glad you got some kiddy love…they make life better…
